After recently paying a visit to my local superstore for a couple of multipacks of sprite to my horror they were sold out. The only thing left after what seemed to be a local demand for fizzy pop to help refresh against this hot weather, was apple tango. Now as far as fizzy pop goes i particularly disliked apple tango, basically due to a friend being allergic to caffeine and he always used to have this and only this to drink. Although initially not a bad alternative to the best pop drinks Coca-Cola and Sprite , Tango is a bit more diverse in it's alternative form offering various different flavours to choose from.
Tango is a drink I myself grew up with, one of most highly publicised soft drinks on the market during the mid to late 90's. There are four initial flavours to choose from at the moment: Cherry, Apple, Tropical and the original flavour Orange. Although over the past decade tango have experimented slightly by releasing limited edition flavours such as Lemon and Grapefruit and Pineapple which did taste much better than the tropical flavour at present.
Unlike it's rival ' The Coca-Cola company', Tango has often remained a popular choice amongst the children of the UK primarily because it is very rarely sold anywhere else in the world. In 1958 it was launched by the Beechem Group, but was later bought by the big soft drinks giant Britvic in 1986.
Tango will always remain a controversial memory for most children who grew up in the 90's due to the various bizarre tv adverts on at the time. Most of the early adverts featured a man being slapped across he face by an orange-clad person, immediately after drinking it. This sparked outrage amongst worried parents as children in playgrounds across the nation slapped each other really hard on the ears as a form of 'double slap' where some unfortunate children were deafened.
Tango is available along with it's three other flavour counterparts in 300ml cans separately and part of a six-pack, a 500ml bottle which comes to around a pint and of course the big 2 litre bottles. Again as my previous review on 'Sprite' pointed out it is far more economical and enjoyable to buy Tango Apple as a six can multipack, because the 2 litre bottle often go flat after the first day leaving behind a rather tasteless mass of liquid behind. Although saying this flat Tango later emerged to be a popular idea by Britvic who released the four flavours in a black bottle called 'Still Tango' which tasted pretty nice as an original orange flavour but apple was quite dire.
The fizz is very productive and thoroughly enjoyable due to its longevity. Unlike Sprite and Coca-Cola, apple Tango doesn't explode upon opening (even when shaken) and therefore doesn't froth over the rim of the can. This is also true about the way in which Tango apple should be poured because it doesn't froth when hastily poured directly into a glass, this makes sure that none of the drink escapes and is wasted. So go crazy by all means when pouring into a glass.
The smell or aroma of Tango apple is very apply and by that I mean it smells very sharp, not necessarily sour, but the smell is by no means subtle like Sprite. You can almost smell four different kinds of apples, it's quite mixed in flavour. Tango is by no means incredibly widespread or popular so you won't find either flavour available from fast food chains such as Burger King and McDonalds because these are American companies, which tend to favour pop made from 'The Coca-Cola company' such as Fanta. I do see Tango Cherry and Orange in many vending machines as well as Apple, making it fairly accessible.
The initial taste of Tango Apple is very sharp and quite crisp, but it is also very sweet and has a high sugar content making it unhealthy as far as fruit flavoured soft drinks go that is. I would favour another soft drink such as Coca-Cola or Sprite as a thirst quencher but as a meal Tango Apple is a good choice. A glass by your side while enjoying a fine BBQ this summer is a wise choice. The initial taste is quite satisfying and thirst quenching although the aftertaste is slightly unsatisfying and leaves your throat and mouth slightly sticky and dry, this is why it is much more enjoyable as part of a meal.
Tango Apple used to boast a high fruit content percentage amongst its rivals but over the years has dramatically fallen as more sugar is added in it's place. 5% is still quite high and as far as fruit flavoured soft drinks go it's healthier in a minor way to its rivals.
So if your unluckily found in the same situation as I when turning the soft drinks isle in the local superstore to find one alternative, you may be relieved as it's better that nothing in this heat. If it's a fairly refreshing drink your after for the BBQ or just a conventional meal this summer then Tango Apple is a good choice, but if it's a drink to have on it's own quickly as a refreshing drink then look elsewhere. You know when you've been Tango'd.

Now, we all remember the 'You Know When You've Been Tagoed' adverts from the 90's but they were only for Orange Tango. I'm not much of a fan of apple drinks or apples in general but Apple Tango is nice.
I recently brought a 330ml can from the local bakers, while I was getting my lunch for 50p. The can is black in colour with a big green apple on the front and drips pertruding outwards from the apple itself. In the center of the apple in black writing ... ...think the labelling design looks great and very modern.
Upon openning the can you instantly get the aroma of apple and although I'm not a fan of apples I do love that incredibly sweet smell of freshly crushed apples which is the only way I can describe it.
As I drunk from the can I got the usual fizzy sensation that you get with most other fizzy drinks along with the taste of sharp and sweet tasting apples but not so sharp that it makes you cringe, ...

Here is another offering from the tango range. I decided to try this although I do not normally drink apple drinks and that includes cider.
First impression is of a standard 330ml can. Predominantly royal blue in colour with a gaudy bright green splash across the front. At the moment they have a strange looking creature incorporated into the can, although these Gotans have nothing to do with the review, it does go to show the odd way that the people ... ...when I open the can the familiar phhhfftt noise emanates, followed by a strong and very pleasant smell of apples. The best way to describe the apple smell is to try and imagine what a crushed apple smells like and your not far from the aroma that is filling my nostrils. I bring the can to my lips, I feel the fizzy liquid hit my mouth, my taste buds explode into wave after wave of saliva inducing pleasure. I would imagine that the 15% Apple juice ...

Advantages: Nice, Tastes Like An Apple Disadvantages: Ruins Your Diet!
Apple tango is the nicest drink ever. It is much nicer than the usual "coca-cola" or "sprite". Tango Apple has the nice, refreshing taste of Apple but just tastes better than an apple out of the fruit bowl! The only down side is if you have a sugar craving, this is the thing for you! It contains lots and lots and lots of sugar, which is obviously not good for you. If you are on a diet, I would recommend you don't drink this because that will be your ...

Advantages: low calories Disadvantages: disgusting (lets be honest)
Diet appletango comes in a can or a bottle, with the distinctive tango packaging. The bottle is black with a silver label, and the green lips. The can is silver with the green lips. The bottle can either be 500ml, or 2 litres, as far as I know (feel free to correct me). The can is 330ml. This is a reasonable amount to drink at one time. The price varies for can. A multipack is usually about 39p per can, whereas at our school it didn't leave change out of 55p. I feel I should point out that the only diet drink that I like is Diet Coke and apart from that I haven't come across another diet drink that I like more than it's normal counterpart, so I didn't have any expectations when I drank it. To be honest I only bought it because I was desperate as the price was extortionate (at my college), they have recently changed all the drinks to ...
Advantages: the bottle and can can be recycled Disadvantages: taste, flavour, E numbers, everything
The main problem with this drink is that is just does not taste pleasant. I am a big fan of the regular appleTango and picked up a can of the diet version by mistake, something I will never do again. It comes in three forms, standard 330ml can, black with green logo, 500ml bottle, green bottle with black and green label and the 2litre green bottle. The problem with this diet drink is that rather than containing sugar it contains nasty sweeteners.
Tango is a brand owned by Britvic having been brought from Beechams in 1986. Tango has run a number of particularly well known advertising campaigns, alhought they will probably be best known for the orange man, you know when you've been tangoed.

Advantages: Refreshing Taste Disadvantages: Can get quite addicted to it
When I first tried this product I hated it! The taste was just short of drinking rusty tin water.
However, they have done something to the recipie and since changing it I found that it was much more lively, with a fresh apple taste and somewhat addictive. So much so that I had to stop buying it because I was drinking 2 litres of this a day without thinking.
I thought it was quenching my thirst, but I found myself being thirsty a few minutes after I had drunk it.
After some 6 bottles in as many days I called a halt to it. I got my family to try it just in case Im an absolute loony and just happened to like AppleTango. They actually found the same.
So, although we love the taste, smell and packaging, unfortunately we will not be purchasing the product again in the near future ...
