Background:
I have always loved Apples regardless of whether they are the ones you buy from the Supermarket or Apple drinks. I also love Tango, so it is a surprise to me I have never tried Apple Tango, but today I’m going to put that right.
History:
Tango was originally made in the 1950’s by Corona, who were acquired by the Beecham Group in 1958 who in turn where bought by Britvic in1987. Who also make Pepsi, 7Up, Robinson’s to name but a few of their drinks portfolio. Tango has become a household name
in the UK due to some excellent and very successful advertising campaigns on Television.
Tango comes in a 330 ml can, 500ml bottle and 2 Litre Bottle. It comes in various different flavours, such as Orange, Lemon, Apple and Blackcurrant.
About the product:
I am reviewing the 330ml can here. It sparkling liquid is stored in a green and black coloured tin. On the front of it you have the very distinctive Tango logo and it tells you this is the Apple variety. I think the light green colouring told me that too. It also tells me this drink is free from artificial colours or flavours.
While on the side of the tin, there is more product information. A list of ingredients, Nutrition information, while also telling you what each can gives you in relation to an adult’s guideline of 2000kcal per day.
The can is a similar size, weight and feel to any other tin of soft drink, that means it fits conveniently into you hand and has the usual ring pull to open the airtight tin.
Ingredients:
Carbonated Water, Apple Juice from Concentrate (5%), Sugar, Natural Flavouring, Malic Acid, Acidity Regulator (Sodium Citrate), Sweeteners, (Acesulfame K, Aspartame), Natural Colour (Plain Caramel), Preservative (Potassium Sorbate), Antioxidant (Ascorbic Acid). Contains a Source of Phenylalanine
Cost:
I have found the price varies considerably for this the cheapest I have seen is 29p but it can be as expensive in Garages and Vending Machines at 60p. While it’s competitors within the market place can and do retail for considerably more than this.
Taste:
For the purpose of my taste test I poured the contents of the tin into a glass. Immediately I opened the tin I could hear the drink fizzing away and in my glass it had lots of bubbles. It smelt immediately of Apples a kind of very sweet Apple. It was a very light yellow colour and looked like any other fizzy Apple drink on the market. When I took my first sip I immediately could taste the Apples. It was sweet and fizzy, the taste not unpleasant but at the same time not as good as I had expected. I found my taste buds were not delighted and it took me a good few sips until I decided if I liked it or not.
For me it was a sweet Apple taste without the sharpness sometimes experienced with it. I certainly found it a pleasurable experience although I would say not as good as say Appletize in taste quality.
This drink is definitely best served chilled and ideal on a warm summers day. I found the taste did satisfy and quench my thirst; I am not sure I could or would want to drink more than one of these. As it had a dryness about it that I find hard to explain. For me this is a nice change from other fizzy drinks on the market, but probably not my first choice.
The only problem I did really find with the product was I had a touch of heartburn afterwards; this could have been either the fizzyness or the apples in the drink.
More details about Tango:
There is a web site for more information: www.tango.co.uk
I enjoyed trying this product and it was a good quality fizzy Apple drink. My opinion is there are better Apple drinks on the market but I think the better quality ones tend to be more expensive. This is an inexpensive alternative. I am sure I will buy this product again as it makes a nice change to have chilled on a hot summers day, but bo me not as enjoyable as the Orange Tango.
