...I bought the Miele S571 as it received a rave review in "which" magazine. It is small and lightweight which makes it easy to manouvre and easy to store away. It picks up better than other machines I have used and is very powerful when turned to the highest setting of 1800.
It is well designed and seems pretty durable. The usual accesories (crevice nozzle, dusting brush and upholstery nozzle) are neatly stored inside the machine and the telescopic tube can be adjusted to suit your height.
I have had mine for around 18 months with no problems. The only slight niggle is that the cable rewind sometimes gets stuck when you are trying to get it back in the machine and although the cable is long it could do with being about 1 - 2 metres longer but this is only a minor problem.
