nearfield monitors, or as part of an active surround system, delivers fast tight bass response and clear midrange, with Analog and Digital inputs. The Tannoy REVEAL 6D monitors are ideal for stereo monitoring applications, or as part of an active surround system. The Tannoy Reveal 6D monitor employs wide band design, its 1 inch tweeter delivers the correct phase response, preserving the harmonic structure of sounds and the stability of the stereo image. The 6 D has one 6 inch multi-fiber low-frequency driver that punches out clean bass tones. A set of DIP switches on the rear control panel of the Tannoy Reveal 6D allows the selection of an optimum speaker response for real life and often difficult monitoring situations so that the frequency response at the listener???s ears is always as linear and flat as possible. Tannoy Reveal 6D monitors can therefore be optimised for varying listening distances in difficult acoustic spaces; varying meter bridge positions, against and adjacent to walls or reflecting surfaces, in corners, in corners on shelves or brackets, table top / space restricted PC/Mac based sound editing environments and stand mounted or soffit mounted configurations. The Tannoy Reveal 6D monitors are ready to integrate with your analog or digital production environment, with XLR and 1/4 inch jack Combi connectors for balanced inputs, RCA input for SPDIF with 75 Ohm terminating impedance and a 2nd RCA for SPDIF output for slaving a stereo pair. When in the digital domain, a 3-way switch selects which channel of the SPDIF stream is decoded, marked Left/Right/Mono. industry reputation of the famous original Tannoy Reveal Active. When launched in the mid nineties, the Reveal Active was widely recognised as the product that defined the category and has been the active monitor of choice for thousands of amateur and professional recording, creative composition and postproduction facilities worldwide. Tannoy Reveal 5A Features 40mm MDF sculpted baffle stiff, heavy and rigid and minimises diffraction. Recessed drive units flush with the baffle surface minimises diffraction. 10 point fixing maximises contact between drive unit and baffle. Bass unit development using Klippell analysis equipment to minimise offsets and linearise the suspension components. New tweeter has wide band design extending the amplitude response beyond 20kHz audibility to 30kHz to correct the phase response from 8kHz to 14kHz within the audible band. This preserves the harmonic structure of sounds and the stability of the stereo image . Smooth tweeter faceplate contours prevent diffraction and cavity effects. On/Mute (energy saving mode) via the Tannoy logo push switch. LED indicator shows Active/Energy Saving modes. Front mounted volume control for convenient Home Studio and PC/MAC laptop/desktop use. 18mm MDF cabinet construction provides stiffness and minimises colouration. Internal construction braces the sides and rear of the cabinet against the rear of the bass driver to provide a rigid reactive mass for the moving cone assembly. Ensures fast tight bass response and clear midrange. Front baffle and rear panel tongued and grooved into the cabinet as a mechanical interlock for safety if wall mounted. Double insulated to prevent ground loops no safety earth required. CSA/CE/CCC/CB full safety approvals including China. Spare fuse in IEC mains connector. On/Off mains isolator switch. If your budget doesn't stretch to £359 then why not take a look at Reveal's brother, the Reveal. Yes it's the same name minus the letter 'S' . These are the passive counterparts to the active model (you need a seperate power amp.) These retail considerably cheaper at around £150. So if you have a good power amp, then go get the Reveal now. What are you waiting for?
Finally ! After 2 years i've got my small home studio together. Why so long? laziness and a sheer huge ammount of university work to do, that's why.
Im Welsh but you could forgive me for being Scottish by my meaness when it comes to forking out for equipment (only joking, no offence to any Scottish, just mirroring an urban myth of being tight with the cash heh.)
The Tannoy Reveal Actives come in at around £359. Believe me I've been to every single site to find the cheapest price and they all more or less (+-10%) fizzle off at that price. I was told about these monitors a while ago and that if I wanted to use them for dance music that I should think twice! Whoever that was, they got it wrong. These babys boom loud let me tell you. I was amazed by the clarity of the sound. They handled the roughest, most dirty basslines I could throw at it and they didn't even flinch. Put it this way, I had to use up nearly half a packet of blutack to hold my wardrobe doors from vibrating so much. My 'neighbourly' knocks on the wall have doubled since these went in.
But wait! My disadvantages said "lack of bottom end". Well, hmmmm, how do I explain? I've always thought of studio monitors to give a clean sounding boom when asked of it. I put this to my tutor and was greeted by a rather sarcastic 'tsk'. He explained that monitors give a clean 'flat' sound and that I shouldnt be looking for a boom but rest assured if I could hear a boom from my basslines and drums, then in a club it would most likely sound fantastic.
Was he trying to pull the wool? No Sir, he was 100% correct. I played a few tunes out loud over a 10k system (Im a dj btw) and ho! mama did they sound good!
So whats that got to do with monitors then? I'll tell you that after I had bought these, my production values were also raised considerably. I feel more confident than ever before when making music. I now engineer my productions in a new light (or with new ears you could say.)
I personally haven't found anything bad about these monitors. The manual is a dream for a total beginner or a professional. I was quite taken back by the 'plain english' speaking of it. It's actually quite funny in some places! Not what you would expect from a manual. But the main aspect is that they (Tannoy) get the message to you in a very unique way e.g. the placement of your speakers is paramount to good listening. They address this in a very easy to understand manner. You have a choice of using balanced jacks or XLR connectors and 2 kettle leads are included with the monitors. They also have 'soft' touch on/off switches on the back and are completly shielded, so you can put them near a PC monitor screen. Weight is around 8.5kilos per speaker. I have mine wall mounted and pointing in at me as recommended in the manual. From delivery to installation took about 10 minutes! Up and running and making tunes in no time at all. When I first took them out of the box I inadvertedly put my finger into the tweeter. I nearly died at the thought of what I had just done, but then, as if by magic the tweeter popped back into place. It was a soft and not metal tweeter. You can imagine my relief. Phew!
Theyr'e extremely well made and just looking at them you know you have a nice piece of kit here. Many friends are quite envious already. The darkish blue seems to snuggly fit in with the rest of the studio and when those 2 little blue LED's are illuminated, you know your listening to your music in the best way for £359.
Of course there are many other monitors around and yes it's a case of 'you pays your money...' so I say to you to take a look around, but you'll be hard put to get anything close to the Tannoy Reveals. If your budget doesn't stretch to £359 then why not take a look at Reveal's brother, the Reveal. Yes it's the same name minus the letter 'S' . Which ever model you buy, the active or passive's, you know your getting quality studio monitors at a price that's not impossible to reach and they give results that truly put the Tannoy Reveal series in a league of their own. I've taken the advice of lecturers and studio engineer's and they all reply the same 'Nowt wrong with them babys' (in so many words)
They've been around for a few years now and they still haven't dropped in price. That tells me these speakers are worth every penny.
Advantages: Accurate, clean, good build quality, Very loud, pumping sound Disadvantages: very heavy
that range, you know you are onto a good thing. Other options in this price range include the Alesis Monitor One's which are better for music with real instruments. Yamaha NS10 which are industry standard in every studio but don't actually sound that good, and TannoyReveals which are just flabby crap.
If you are looking for a decent pair of studio speakers for about £200 then get a pair of Absolute 2's, you will not be disappointed but be warned, they do weigh about half a ton due to the amazing build quality. ...
