Advantages: Very clear, very crisp Disadvantages: slight lack of bottom end! Tho I wouldnt frett.
...'s are illuminated, you know your listening to your music in the best way for £359.
Of course there are many other monitors around and yes it's a case of 'you pays your money...' so I say to you to take a look around, but you'll be hard put to get anything close to the Tannoy Reveals. If your budget doesn't stretch to £359 then why not take a look at Reveal's brother, the Reveal. Yes it's the same name minus the letter 'S' . These are the passive counterparts to the active model (you need a seperate power amp.) These retail considerably cheaper at around £150. So if you have a good power amp, then go get the Reveal now. What are you waiting for?
Which ever model you buy, the active or passive's, you know your getting quality studio monitors at a price that's not impossible to reach and they give results that truly put the Tannoy Reveal series...

Advantages: Solid workmanship, useable tones, very versatile. Disadvantages: Shoddy electronics
...I got this in 2006, plus RM600 in cash; from a dealer who'd always wanted my '81 Fender P-bass. The GSR205 is a good, sturdy; all-round 'gigworthy' bass with a wide palette of tones. I've used it exclusively on a wide array of gigs, from rock to quasi-jazz; and it's held up well. My only grouses are the quality of the electronics and the battery-hungry 'Phat EQ' circuitry. I ended up replacing all the controls with Ernie Ball 500K pots; and getting rid of the entire 'Phat EQ' circuit by rewiring the bass like a stock Fender Jazz Bass (2 Volumes and a Master Tone). So, what I have now is basically a passive bass that still sounds great; without the hassle of changing batteries. The bass sounds clear and clean either through an amp; or a direct box (mine's a Boss) straight into a mixer. I do hope that Ibanez can come up with a GSR205...

Advantages: Beautiful sound, but powerful all the same. Fret marks help guide the fingers Disadvantages: Passive, and requires a battery. Battery case too big but easily solved.
...I had been playing a bog-standard 4 string squier p-bass for 3 years when I thought it was time for an upgrade. Listening to the likes of Jaco Pastorius I was inspired by the sound of the fretless bass. It was then I started my search for a fretless with my budget being under £600 (a replica Jaco bass being over £1000). I was advised by a session bass player to buy a bass with a large fret board as I had quite long fingers. He told me yamaha have high quality fretless basses at my budget. I searched on the internet for the ideal bass and I came across the Yamaha TRB1005F, made with quality maple woods and a great tone. I went to many bass shops in London to find something similar. They didn\'t have any yamaha basses but wide fret ones that sounded good. I decided then to purchase the yamaha over the internet. Although it take several...
