This is the masterpiece of French comedy and has become so famous as to warrant being a word in itself – to be Tartuffed. This is to be duped as Orgon is in the play by a fraud. Tartuffe professes to be a religious man of abstention and chastity but soon he takes over the household and tries to seduce Orgon’s wife and throw them out of the house. It is a very funny play and never ceases in its uses of comic types and situations. This is the gem in Moliere’s crown and should not be missed. Buy it, read it, lend it out and adore it.

Presents a prose translation of Moliere's great comedy that remains close to the original French. This edition also includes an introductory essay... |
