Advantages: Decent clarity, comfortable Disadvantages: Extremely bright sound to the point of shrillness
I was very disappointed by these headphones. They might be cheap at just £40, but the five-star "What Hi-fi" review made me expect better.
What I got was a pair of comfortable headphones that sounded shrill. Really, really bright. Eye-wateringly bright. The other frequencies are present, and clarity is not bad, but that top end is piercing. Ouch.
Of course, it might be my hearing.
I haven't listened to headphones for quite some time (since I was a teenager) but the DR100s also seem to have a narrow stereo field -- as if the instruments are crowded into the middle of your head.
At the moment I'm "running in" the headphones to see if the sound improves but I doubt the shrillness will go away. I really, really wonder how they got five stars from What Hi-fi. A note on the packaging points out that Goldring reserve the right to ...

Advantages: Good features, sound quality, can be bought cheaply on ebay. Disadvantages: No phantom power some leaking issues.
The most expensive of Tascams portastudio range. The 424 MKIII is a very good purchase for the musician on a budget who needs more than just plug and play features.
The unit contains, 4 unpowered balanced XLR inputs. 4 jack inputs. (you can't use bolth the xlr and jacks at once) and 2 further jack inputs.
So if you were to use XLR - Jack converters. You could run 6 microphones through the unit at once.
The unit does have a tricky operation however.
First you must select the input,
line/mic - for microphones and jack inputs
off - for no input
tape - for monitoring whilst recording on another channel to monitor without leakage.
Then there is a 4 band e.q., high, high-mid, mid and low. Very few portastudios have a 4 band e.q.
Next are the effect sends, if you have a compressor of effects unit connected, these dictate how ...
Advantages: Compact, Powerful, Large Storage, Good connectivity, Quick Play Media Centre Disadvantages: Shared Graphics Card, No Laptop Case, No bluetooth installed
I bought the HP DV1355ea for use on the road so I was looking for a smallish machine, with loads of RAM and storage. I found all this with the 14" screen, 100GB Hard drive and 1024MB RAM. I run intensive music and video apps and apart from the sluggish graphics this laptop handles it all. I run a USB powered Sound Card (Tascam US 122) and have not had any problems with that so far. The design is great with a black body vs blue light scheme which is better than most PC laptops. HP Quick Play is great for playing DVD/CD's without having to bootup Windows - I can have a CD playing within 1 min. The Altec Lansing speakers are much better than most laptops I looked at, but I wish someday a manufacurer would utilise the body of the laptop to produce some more bass resolution. I have recently bought a MP3/Pen Drive for transferring small files ...
