I wish I was the proud possessor of a Taylor 810guitar! The one I'm writing about belongs to a friend of mine, and he's very protective of it, will let very few people touch it (I appear to be one of the favoured few!)
The guitar itself is made of Indian rosewood back and sides, with a Sitka spruce top, with distinctive Taylor ebony bridge and scratchplate. The neck is tropical American mahogany, the fingerboard is also ebony. The soundhole is decorated with Abalone,however this is not excessive. Machine heads are gold plated for a touch of luxury.
As much care has been taken on the inside of this guitar as on the outside, and the finish is smooth, even on those hard-to-reach corners inside the guitar.
This particular guitar does not have a fitted pickup, however I use an ebony Mimesis acoustic pickup which is excellent!
The tone of this guitar cannot be surpassed by any Martin or Gibson. It rings clear and true, and is well balanced between the treble and bass strings. I have played it in many a session, and its distinctive tone cuts above all the others. It is truly a guitarist's guitar, a pleasure to use. The action is just high enough to give good projection, yet low enough to make playing fast and easy.
While a little pricy for anyone but the serious guitarist, this guitar is however much cheaper than the nearest rivals from Martin or Gibson. As a bonus it comes in an extremely heavy Taylor hard case - made of 5-ply wood, which will withstand even a motorbike falling on it. (Tried and tested, lol).
This guitar is not for a beginner, and would be wasted on someone who just wants to strum chords. It's a melodic guitar, and should be used for playing melody! More cutting than the mahogany models, the rosewood still has a lot of sweetness in its tone. Being one of Bob Taylor's favourites, it is described on the website as "simply a killer guitar". I wouldn't disagree!

Hi! You sound as if you love guitars as much as my husband, though he's lucky enough to own a limited edition Taylor 810, bought second hand from the "Sounds great" web site for about a quarter of the brand new price! And that's just one of his guitars! Anna x
