Taylor Price & Co were founded in 1974 and were pioneers in the field of direct insurance sales, being one of the first direct insurance providers in the country.
From the start, they have invested heavily in staff training and technology. They use one of the best computerised insurance administration systems in the country (from Cheshire DataSystems Ltd) and this is backed up with a sophisticated call centre system from Mitel to ensure all enquiries are promptly handled, together with an advanced voice recording system from Eyretel, which has largely allowed them to dispense with documentation, speeding up and simplifying the process of buying insurance.
They say that they pride themselves on the care they take of their customers. They ensure that all quotations are fully explained at the time they are given, and only use insurers with a first class reputation for claim handling.
Why Direct Choice?
After all, they ask a lot of questions! Yes, they do. Some people don't - they ask a few questions and then, if you don't fit, they don't bother. Direct Choice care about their customers and want to ensure that you get the right policy.
But I've never heard of them! Don't worry. They have been trading for more than 25 years, and more than a million people have gone to them for their insurance. They are one of the most efficient insurance providers in the industry and grow larger every day.
But aren't middlemen more expensive? It depends who the middleman is.
They are totally independent of any insurance company. This means that when you contact them, you can be assured of impartial advice in your best interests. One call or visit to their site for a quotation means that they can find you the best policy that suits your needs both in terms of coverage and price. Contrast this with a direct insurer, who will only be able to advise you on their own product and only provide you with one quotation.
It's true that you can sometimes save money by buying direct, but by no means always. Are you totally confident that you can handle your own insurance affairs, whether it's in arranging a policy, understanding the way your insurance policy works, or dealing with a claim? If the answer to this question is anything other than a resounding "yes", I believe you'd be better off talking to a broker - such as Direct Choice. Even if you do feel that you may be able to handle all your insurance on your own, they may well be able to save you money anyway!
How? Well, if you have ever been involved in an argument with an Insurer over a claim, you will know how awkward they can get. With Direct Choice, you get a team of experienced insurance negotiators dealing with your claims, plus you get the clout that only a major purchaser can bring to bear. Their slogan is-"We buy more insurance so we can sell it to you cheaper".
As well as dealing with motor insurance, they also offer annual breakdown policies (from £29.00 - UK only), household contents & buildings cover, motorcycle, commercial vehicle, public liability & travel insurance.
They also deal with more insurers than the AA - they automatically search for policies with the following insurers, and will offer you the best one available:
Axa, Allianz Cornhill, Broker Direct, Chaucer, Chubb, Churchill, Equity Red Star, Folgate, Fortis, Groupama, Hastings, Highway Choice, HSBC (Ireland), Kinetic, KGM, Legal & General, Link, Markerstudy, MMA, NIG, Norwich Union, Novitas, Premier Underwriting, Premium Line, Provident, Royal & Sun Alliance, Sabre, Service, Shakespeare, UGM, Zenith & Zurich!
Just imagine trying to obtain a quote from all of these companies yourself to find the best one for you! You'd be there all day!
You can contact Direct Choice at:

I have been insured with them for years - only once did I find a cheaper quote elsewhere, and when it came down to it the service I received from the new company was not as good. For example, they charged me to change my vehicle even though the car I bought was a lower group than it's predecessor! I went back to Direct Choice the next year and have been there ever since. They handle all my insurance needs - both my cars, my house buildings and my contents, and I'm very pleased with all of them.
RENAULT ESPACE - arranged with Allianz Cornhill. I'm paying £339 a year for Comprehensive cover - and this includes cover for my wife who is 27 and has a provisional licence. I'm also paying an extra £62 for a year's breakdown cover - including home start, relay and caravan cover.
MITSUBISHI CARISMA - arranged with Zurich. I'm being charged around £440 for Comprehensive insurance, myself and my wife, and the policy includes FREE legal expenses insurance and breakdown cover.
HOUSE CONTENTS & BUILDINGS - With Link Insurance. Paying £190 for £100,000 buildings cover and £35,000 contents, with accidental damage cover included.
Oh, by the way - I'm also paying all of the above by monthly instalments!

Quick review of Taylor Price Direct Choice
I was contacted by Taylor price and was quoted a very good price for my house building and contents insurance, however when i changed my bank details i was threatened with court action for default on a payment . My other insurance companies and other companies affected by my change of details contacted me in a very polite manner and were happy to take my new details. Please tell me why do Taylorprice have to resort to this manner of strong arm tactics . I for one will be taking my custom elsewhere in future ...

A good value product was somewhat soured by a letter bordering on the rude from a man called "managing director" whose signature was untranslated. Looks like Adam or Alan Parry or Paty??
My alleged sin was that it was reported to me that a direct debit did not go through. I had no idea of this and have imediately corrected the perceived error.
Sadly you must think twice about these people if you don't want an oversight or administrative error at your bank or on your part to be met with immediate brusque letters threatening legal action.
These are, apparently, not nice people, which is a pity! ...

I took my car insurance with these people as they were the cheapest, but it was a mistake I've made before but I won't again! Extremely rude on the telephone, incorrect advice given to me, when I complained that they had wasted my time by omitting to reply to a letter and expecting me to guess the answer, I had the phone slammed down on me. Still waiting for the refund after the policy was cancelled, apparently it's in process. I'm voting with my feet. ...

I month after getting my insurance through this company, i received totally out of the blue a registered letter saying & I quote " You are advised to obtain cover elsewhere". It gave me 7 days from the date of the letter, which by the time I received it gave me 2 working days to arrange insurance! I am also being charged by them £20 for doing this.
There is no explanation of why they want to do this, & I have tried to call all of their 0844 numbers and all are uncontactable! ...

I thought my original insurance company were cheap, but these guys beat that by over £100.
I was told about them by my friend who is also a customer. He said they gave him a good quote, but I didn't expect the difference to be so great.
So far, I haven't had any accidents (touch the proverbial piece of wood) so can't give an opinion on how the service is from that point of view! However, the documents came through promptly, and the person on the ... ...a new car soon, so will update the opinion based upon the new quote I receive.

OK, so they were cheap for the Fiesta... They aren't for my Puma. They want a further £150 to insure me until start of June!!! They said something about it being a 'capped' insurance! This means young drivers like myself are overcharged for nice cars!!
Anyway, apart from that, I would still recommend them if you have a run of the mill car like a Fiesta! ...

Advantages: Competitive quotes, Good service, Good package Disadvantages: Weren't competitive enough
most recent renewal, a friend referred me to TaylorPriceDirectChoice, who undercut RAC by £100, (you should be able to read more on this soon) due to me being nearly 25. However, I would ask RAC for a quote again when it comes to renewing again to see what they can offer.
I can't comment much on the service, since the only time I have spoken to the company is on obtaing price and renewing details, which as a pleasant enough experience. (What I'm trying to say is that I have never had a crash, and needed to use that aspect of the service). ...
