In my opinion there are pretty much 3 main contenders for DJ Headphones with designs that don't copy each other. Technics, Sony and Sennheiser. There are others but they are mostly just copies of Sony's MDVR 700. Such as Pioneer's HDJ1000, Stanton's DJ Pro 3000 and Beyerdynamic DJX1.

What I love about these headphones is the comfort. They really are a pair of comfortable headphones with their padded headband and nicely padded ear cups. It's not just the comfort level; it's the fact they stay on your head. When I DJ I tend to well...have a tendency to dance. This is why, for me, these headphones are great. They mold to your head and stay there, as they are lighter than most of the competition in this range as they only weigh 230g without the cord. With the rotary housing (which allows the arms to pivot at different angles and lock into place) you can set the headphones to you preference and so you can have both comfort and practicality. As you can lock your settings, you can quickly pop these headphones on and immediately start mixing, as there is no fiddling about.

In terms of sound these are headphones are very good. There are of a closed back design which helps cancel out ambient noise. These headphones can produce frequencies of 5khz up to 30,000khz. This allows for a deeper bass frequencies and because of the quality of these headphones, it's a nice punchy bass. Again, handy when cueing up a record and trying to mix into another as it allows you to hear what you are doing better. With the ability of these headphones to produce frequencies up to 30,000khz, you can hear the higher frequencies better, such as vocals, hi-hat etc. Again handy when cueing up accapella records or records that start without a beat as you can hear more detail.

Other features:

- A splash proof design, which prolongs the life of these headphones if especially used in sweaty nightclubs.
- 3m coiled cord. Good for roaming around and still be able to hear what is going on.
- It comes with a 3.5mm jack and 1/4inch adapter. You can use it in a normal hi-fi or portable device, such as CD player. I wouldn't recommend these headphones if you are a real audio head. But to most of us, who don't have the hearing of bats, the audio quality is good enough.
- These headphones come with a high power handling capability thus allowing to be turned right up on any mixer, so you can hear what you are doing.
- Along with the rotary housing design, these headphones fold up into themselves. Good for transporting around from gig to gig or place to place.

All in all, I would recommend these headphones for DJ use. For me I, love the ease of use they prodive. They allow you to quickly monitor when DJ'ing and have the quality for you to hear what you are doing. In terms of using them for non DJ use I wouldn't recommend them as they are better quality head phones for...stereo use, even though the sound quality they provide is good enough. For use with portable devices I wouldn't recommend them because they are on the rather large use and couldnt be used for say jobbing.. But having said that, if you wanna look cool, you could achieve that with these as they are rather stylish heaphones.

You can pick up these headphones for around 90-100 pounds. They are available from pretty much all DJ shops. I think they are available from say half normal electronic retailers as well.

Im sorry Trevor. But I don't understand you comment "Great admiration for all technics products". It suggests that I love everything with a technics sticker on it. Which, to me, doesn't make sense because the only Technics product I named was this headphone that I was reviewing. Please enlighten me. Cheers! Elliot
