As with all Technics, this plays records at either 33 or 45 rpm and you have the option to select the speed between -8% and +8%. This turntable also has the 'pitch reset' button which, if pressed, ignores the pitch selected on the fader and plays the record as if at 0%. A nice feature, although I hardly use it.
Putting the cartridge and stylus together was a tricky job but these things always are. After doing a fair few over the years I can do it fairly quickly but newcomers should always read the instructions very carefully before attempting it.
This is a great looking turntable, I prefer this to the black 1210 model which has the exact same specifications, which can take an astonishing amount of abuse. Technics turntables are famous for their longevity, often lasting for years. These are no exception. The only thing that may need to be done to this turntable is some cleaner sprayed into the pitch slider to keep it gliding smoothly and not sticking.

Advantages: Excellent reliablity, accurate pitch control, nice feel to them Disadvantages: Not so many features compared to newer decks, low pitch range
...I will mention, and what Technics are renound for, is their durability. My decks have been to parties, had drinks spilled on them, dropped, been in the back of transit vans, and they still work perfectly. There is no sign of damage to the tone arms, or in fact any other area of them. The lights on the platter still stay in perfect allignment at 33rpm, which shows that they still turn at precisely 33rpm. It's almost like you couldn't break them if ... ...torque - when you drop in the vinyl, it begins to spin at 33 or 45 rpm almost instantly. Then again, they don't have too much either. I have mixed on decks such as the Stanton STR8150s, and they have so much torque you really have to push on the vinyl to slow it down a little and get it in time. As a result, they are very nice for beginner DJs as they will get in time easily and then stay in time.
Now I come to the negative aspects - and there are ...

...standard for lower prices the technics deck is starting to become outdated. Though it's becoming outdated it still holds the same price. With the MK 5, it has nothing really new to offer, only accessories which hardly justify the new pricing of the turntable. New features of the MK5 are a dipless pitch control, a hingeless lid, so it's easier to take off and recessed power button to stop you accidently turning it off. Aitch reset button, which is ... ...are insistent on buying a technics then I would recommend you buy the MK2 because the MK 5 offers little more for the more expensive price tag you have to pay.
For what it's worth this turntable is a great to DJ on but the competition offers better for the same price or even less. I recommend that it's time to move on the technics legend. Technical Specs...
Torque of around 1.5kgs I think, which is quite low compared to it's new rivals, with it's ...

Advantages: can't go wrong Disadvantages: overpriced
It's the same review as the TechnicsSL-1200MK5 because the only difference between the SL-1200MK5 and SL-1210 MK5 is the colour. The SL-1200 is silver and the SL1210 is black. Not many people realise it. The amount of people I've met who say "yeah...the 1210's are better aren't they!?" and "the 1210's are more powerful". When I was trying to sell 1200's MK2, I had difficulty selling them to 2nd hand stores because the shops were only after 1210's because of this illusion that the 1210 is a better deck
With my experience of this turntable I would say it is a very good turntable for the use of Dj'ing. The only thing I dont agree with about this turntable is the price. As other Dj turntables produces began to make turntables of the same quality and standard for lower prices the technics deck is starting to become outdated. Though ...
