I got my first one second hand for £280 with gold-plated plugs. This helped the sound quality, apparently. I then purchased a 2nd one brand new with a 2 channel mixer, for £450, inc Cart and needles.

The Technics deck is direct drive, rather than belt driven. This enables you start the deck moving in less than 0.1 secs. The platter is stable as well which enables you do spin-backs with ease.

I no longer have them, due to having space, i regret selling them, i miss them, i'm gonna have them again.

They are so easy to use. The strobe light on the front helps you find which speed the deck needs to run at, and by moving the pitch control and looking at the strobe light you can see if you are moving the track faster or slower than needed to mix.

I bought mine on the basis of becoming the next generation Scratch DJ. I wanted to enter the Technics World Mixing Championship Finals, obviously never got there. The best piece of advice about these babies is they hold their value even if you drop them 30feet out of a window onto the ground. They are made from Cast Steel and are built like a brick!
Total quartz locked continuous pitch adjustment up to 8% Precision moulded aluminium diecast cabinet and heavy rubber base material absorb unwanted vibrations Unwavering quartz Direct Drive accuracy: wow and flutter 0,01% WRNMS, rumble -78dB (DIN B) Very high torque (1.5Kg/cm) for quick start-ups Highly sensitive low mass tone-arm with gimbal suspension/helicoid tonearm height adjustment
Advantages: Nearly everything-the best decks by far. Disadvantages: high price new9though it is justified), pitch control clicks into place at 0% pitch.
...better than the industry standard-the Technics SL1210 or SL1200-but none, in my opinion, come close. These are the best selling decks there are, so surely that shows how good they are. With +/-8% pitch, and very quick start up times, no wonder nearly all top DJs choose Technics as their weapon. The Technics decks have been around for years, but still look ready for business. Although there is no difference performance wise, I prefer the Technics ... ...retro look, these decks would look at home anywhere, not just in the big clubs. Most of the cheaper decks copy the same layout as the 1200s and 1210s, which has now become the industry standard layout, though they cannot match their performance. The only small problem with them is that the pitch fader clicks into place at 0% pitch, which can make mixing around the 0% pitch mark a slight problem, though this has been altered on the soon to be released ...

Advantages: Easy to Use, look stunning, trendy Disadvantages: Heavy, Easy to switch off by accident
...you haven't heard of the Technics SL1200, then you have no interest in djing...
The decks are nice and sturdy as it's aluminium casing weighs in at a hefty 11kg. so if you're doing gigs, you'll need to build up those muscles if you want to move quickly! there is a high amount of torque and they are VERY easy to use!
These decks are only for the true DJ's out there... at 0.025% WRMS this means that two tracks playing at the same speed are not going ... ...only downfall is the slight lack of featires compared to some of the newer models.
Stylus's are easy to find for these decks and so you can scratch away to your hearts delight!
Never invest in cheap decks. If you can afford these, they are a worthy investment, you can only learn properly on these. Belt drives and low torque decks only serve to delay your progress, as you really can't learn to mix or scratch properly on belt drives.
Prices tend ...

Advantages: Well Built, Good reputation, Disadvantages: speed control
The technics decks have been known as the "the best decks" for many years, but over the past year there have been many new decks that have been brought out that in my opinon are better that the technics. For example the Vestax PDX-2000 and the Vestax PDX-d3s are in my opinion a lot better that the technics sl-1200 if you compare the starting times the vestax decks are faster the have more pitch control a heavier tracking weight, reverse play, and ...

Advantages: market leader, most clubs use these, easy to use Disadvantages: parts are quite expensive
Technics are the most sought after and popular decks on the market, closely followed by vestax. however although vestax are a cracking set of decks, almost every d.j. will notice that most venues are sticking by there guns and leaving technics in the clubs. i think the main reason is that they have always been reliable and are very hard wearing. All though i am not very technically minded, I know that technics do pretty much everything that i need ... ...the residual value on these decks is briliant, and they could never be blamed as a bad buy. I know that if mine ever got stolen or lost, i would not hesitate in buying exactly the same decks again. there would be no need to upgrade. (so the Vestax can spin backward at the touch of a button), so what. Dont delay, buy today. you wont be sorry. ...

Advantages: same turntable at home as in the clubs Disadvantages: heavy
Technics1200 / 1210 what more can you say its the number one DJ turntable on the planet.
For years and years when i was younger just geting in to Djing all i wanted was a pair of technics.
after a few years with other direct drive decks i finally saved enough money to buy a pair i of technics, i bought the SL1200Mk2 because they were silver i did not like the brown of the 1210 much.
i have read around and talked to people and aparently the only difference between the 1200 and the 1210 is the colour.
I set up my new 1200s and got the tunes out. Wow what a turntable, after years of trying out all other types of direct drive turntables i could instantly see and feel the difference in build quality. the technics weight alot compared to any other turntable, this is because the bottom black base you see is not made of cheap moulded ...
Advantages: Too many to list. Disadvantages: One minor defect (see conclusion)
of a single turntable. This is not very suitable for today?s type of clubs. The first direct drive turntable was the SP-10 and was only replaced ten years later with the SL-1200MK2 which was inspired by Technics in the way that their aim was to manufacture a turntable which was built not only for quality but durable enough to cope with sustained, heavy-duty use. This set the standard for direct drive turntables designed specifically for club environments and DJs who wanted to play a continuous flow of music without any gaps and be able to do this by changing the speeds of the records. Previous versions of turntables did not even have pitch control so you can imagine how difficult that would have been. The design of the 1210 has not changed noticeably since the 1200 series and only minor modifications are made in each new variation. These ...
