Advantages Cute. Different. Nice colours. Resolution. Hold about 80 photos. Easy to use.

Disadvantages Battery life is short.

I bought a couple of TeckNet 1.5" Egg Digital Photo Frames for my daughters christmas stocking last year because I thought they looked different and that they would look cute in her room for her to display photos of her family and friends. Each egg cost me about £10.00 from Amazon, but I did manage to get a deal where I bought 3 and they gave me a 4th egg free - and so this made it more financially pleasing. I didn't think £10.00 was too bad a price anyway and so it's a fairly cheap way to have a digital photo frame, and I think it is especially nice for a child or teenagers bedroom.

The photo frame is, as the name would suggest, shaped like an egg. It is oval shaped and three dimensional and then the photo aspect of the product is situated on a little rectangle at the front of the egg. The have flat bases which make it possible for the egg to sit on a flat surface without rolling around, although it's worth mentioning that it doesn't take much force for the egg to roll over - although if it does, it literally rolls and doesn't have any damage done to it. There are a number of egg colours to choose from, such as yellow, green, orange, pink, red and black - and so it's quite nice to be able to collect several colours which make the set look more snazzy and fun. The eggs are quite small and so they don't take up a lot of space, measuring about 10cm high, with the actual photo element of the product measuring about 7cm x 5cm. As you can see, the photo display is small and so if you're looking for something to display your photos impressively then this product isn't for you.

The egg is made of plastic, but it feels sturdy - and like I said, my daughters eggs have rolled around a lot and have not been damaged in any way. The do contain lithium batteries that need to be charged up and the batteries don't last that long - and so we generally keep the eggs plugged in most of the time.

The photos are quite clear and so although the photo display is small, this in some way makes up for that. The product accepts both JPEG and BMP format photos and as JPEG is the most widely used saving format then this is convenient and means nothing needs to be converted prior to use.

Using the egg is very simple and it just a matter of uploading the photos onto the egg. This can be done either with connection to your computer or photo storage device as it is done via a USB connection. We did find that we needed to reduce the file size of our photos in order to get the maximum capacity, but in general we find that each egg takes about 80 photos of a relatively decent file size. As soon as the photos have been uploaded, it is possible to then display them, either by choosing the photo you most want to display at any given time, or opting for the photo slideshow so that the photo changes periodically.

I think these eggs are cute. I do wish that the batteries lasted a little longer - but overall, they are nice little products.
