**EDIT** I would like to update this review, as I have found further down the line that the film on the top of the water that I said I hadn't experienced has now made an appearance. This cooincided with when I installed the claris filter. I was using my own filter at the tim eof writing and suggest anyone else do the same. Keep a filtered jug full and fill the Tefal when needed. Also, the Tefal works harder and uses more energy with it's own filter, as I noticed it doesn't pump as much water through, and also makes it slower. Don't use the filter if you have your own! **END OF EDIT**
My kettle was not faulty, but I was encouraged to buy this for several reasons: 1, the 65% less energy consuption per cup. 2, Getting tea at the touch of a button without having to measure out a cupful each time. 3, Only waiting 3 seconds for the hot water. 4, Having a pre-progammable measure of water come out.
Good points: I have bragged to all my friends about this device, as it is quite revolutionary, and makes you feel like you're one step further into that futuristic eutopia we've all seen in sc-fi films. It is labour saving, as you fill up the large capacity jug and just forget out it. This water is also filtered before reaching the spout. The fact that it is so efficient with regards to time, effort and money, not to mention the environment, would make me wonder howcome everyone hasn't got one. After "bigging up" this product, I will now tell you about the why nots: Bad points: Firstly, these are very minor gripes, so anyone diswayed from buying should weigh these up against the good points carefully, as I feel these gripes are of little consequence compared to them. 1. The noise. While this won't wake your neighbour, it may wake someone in the next room if you are having a mid-night tea. It is only a few seconds, so isn't really bothersome, and the overall sound is probably less than some very rapid boil kettles. 2. The spout is too high for a standard mug. They have done it to allow for pint glasses as it's also a plain filtered water dispenser, but for boiling water, there should be an option to lower the spout to stop splashes. I have solved this by putting a small block under it with a coaster. 3. I have heard others saying you might get a film on the water, but I have never expirenced this. Also, that the water may not be boiling, but I always turned the kettle off just before boil anyway, as I think it tastes better if it doesn't burn your lips.
In summary, my tea making days are so much better now, as I get up in the morning with a pre-prepared cup under the spout and press the button. By the time I get the milk out, it's pretty much ready. Fantastic.
