Advantages: So easy to use Disadvantages: None so far!
...I received the Tefal 3.2l Classic automatic ricecooker as a present from my Mum - Good old Mum!
To be honest, whenever I thought about the concept of a ricecooker, I thought, "What's the point?" Surely a saucepan or a microwave would cook rice just as well? Every friend I asked agreed with this theory - they all seem to either boil rice in a saucepan on the hob or in a microwave.
So it was with trepidation that I first tried out my new ricecooker one lunchtime, to make a risotto. I thought, mistakenly, that you could only cook plain rice in this new gadget, but the instruction leaflet contains recipes for risottos, pasta, steamed vegetables and fruit.
My ricecooker looks much like a slow cooker, with a non-stick internal bowl plus a basket that sits inside the bowl. The basket is used for steaming fruit and veg...

Advantages: Easy to cook crisp healthy vegetables Disadvantages: Steam can scold
...Free up hob and oven space with the steamer.
Cauliflower, broccili and carrots mantain full flavour and goodness when steamed.
You can cook rice and vegetables at the same time but you need to check the time required to cook them.
Fish comes out well if cooked in foil.
Escaping steam can be a hazard so take care when removing the food containers.
Make sure you check cooking times on the steamer to avoid overcooking.
The flavour of the food is better than if it was cooked in a pressure cooker and it does not have that sweaty socks smell.
You will enjoy using the steamer with the assurance that your food has that natural quality saucepan boiling eliminates.
It makes an excellent Christmas gift. Shop around and get a good deal....

Advantages: Easy to use; perfect fluffy rice, easy to clean Disadvantages: None

Compared to our old ricecooker, the Tefal is a monster of a contraption, capable of cooking rice for 10 people. Fairly big, the size of a large saucepan, it looks pretty stylish in silver and black. It comes in 2 parts, the outer container which contains the heating device and has a smart click-shut lid, and the non-stick pan, which is where the rice goes into and just fits inside the cooker.
*Price*
We bought ours from Amazon.co.uk for £39.99 and it comes with a free 12 month warranty.
*How to use*
The best thing about the ricecooker is the ease of use - it really is designed for those who struggle to boil an egg! It can cook every type of rice I've ever heard of - plain, brown, basmati, jasmine. Everything is done from the snazzy but simple control panel...
