Advantages Advantages Nutritious, quick, easy, economical, less dishes, more tasty and colourful, with retained texture.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not suitable for large family usage, short connection lead. All surfaces become extremely hot!

~*~ "Good Health To You," ~ Why use the Tefel Steamer? ~*~ It is now an established fact that steaming food is one of the most beneficial and nutritious means of healthy eating. One of the fundamental reasons for this is that the food being steamed, never actually comes into contact with the water, therefore, the health-giving components of the cuisine are not depleted in the course of the cooking process. As an example of the advantages of using a food steamer over boiling, is the better percentage rates of vital nutrients retained. Folic acid is reduced by 15% in steaming but 25% by boiling ... more

Advantages Advantages Vegetables and rice but not as we know it!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

I always questioned the point of a steamer. Another appliance to sit in the kitchen cupboard. Used once and replaced by another equally pointless appliance-du-jour. After all, you can steam using a regular saucepan with a steamer pan sitting inside it. Or even one of those bamboo things you get from Asian supermarkets. Or those metal flower like things that sit in a pan of water. All of which I have, all of which sit unused in my kitchen cupboard. Wrong, wrong, wrong. I have had my steamer for a month and it has spent all of one day in a cupboard. The rest of the time it has sat stove-side ... more

Just lately, I seem to keep reading articles about how we should all get five portions a day (of fruit or vegetables that is). The definition of such portions is quite far reaching – a glass of orange juice in the morning counts for one – but I still concluded that I just wasn’t getting enough (don’t make me keep steering your minds out of the gutter…). Bearing this in mind, I decided that the obvious place to start was to try and consume more fresh vegetables with my dinner. One of the things that traditionally puts me off cooking vegetables is that you generally ... more

Advantages Advantages Can cook my entire lunch/dinner, healthy, quick, almost effortless, doesn't need watching

Disadvantages Disadvantages Doesn't cook rice well, not ideal for cooking food at varying lengths of times

I'm quite lazy when it comes to cooking, a consequence of being almost literally banned from the kitchen for over 20 years whenever my dad cooked dinner, and then three years at university, when, well I didn't have the time or inclination to eat well (though I did often manage to cook vegetables unlike most typical students!) So when I finally flew the family nest a couple of years after finishing university, living out on my own and with a full time job, well I found I'd become quite dependent on my dad's healthy cooking! If I attempted to eat fast food or anything pre-prepared more than a ... more

Advantages Advantages Healthy, Less mess than hob cooking.. (mine anyway!) leaves you free to Ciao!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Water does run out eventually, juice collector needs emptying often

There I sat at the computer desk, checking out the latest ops on Ciao and totally engrossed. The study, the house, even the outside world had slipped into oblivion. Everything had become a blur, except the latest op on my screen. …. When once again that familiar smell teases my nostrils. Todays perfume? Washing powder? Freshly baked bread? Nope … that of veggies boiling dry on the hob! Gross! I just don’t have the time to scrub pan after pan either. A common occurrence in my household I can tell you! So … time to do something about it ……… Give up CIAO ... more
