The iron has a one litre tank, which the iron can rest upon, horizontally. This capacity means you can get through piles and piles of ironing without having to top it up. Of course ... ...when I have to, which is as infrequently as possible. It is recommended that the tank is rinsed through after every ten uses.
The iron is extremely powerful. I used it to iron some bedding in an emergency as a friend was staying over and the bed was not ready. I hate ironing, don’t you? It is the worst chore imaginable. Anyway, recently we had to replace our old iron with a new one.
It was coming for ages. Every time we switched on the old iron, it used to trip a fuse in the house, and all the power would go off. This had been going on for months and months, but one day, it tripped about five or six times in succession, and we were not able to have the iron on for any time whatsoever. So a new iron was required.
I had seen these new-fangled “steam stations” in the shops a couple of years or so ago and could not believe that people would pay up to £300 for a blessed iron. Anyway, more recently I did vaguely recall reading someone’s opinion about their own steam station and decided that I should get with the times and make this type of iron my next purchase. My husband was nipping down town that particular afternoon and the only instruction I gave was that he should get one of those new fangled irons, with the big water tank beneath.

The iron has a one litre tank, which the iron can rest upon, horizontally. This capacity means you can get through piles and piles of ironing without having to top it up. Of course I haven’t tested this feature, as I iron as and when I have to, which is as infrequently as possible. It is recommended that the tank is rinsed through after every ten uses.
The iron is extremely powerful. I used it to iron some bedding in an emergency as a friend was staying over and the bed was not ready. The iron certainly made light work of the sheets and pillowcases, and generated so much steam, it was reminiscent of the Glasgow Steamie! In fact, as I was going at the task quite ferociously, the bedroom where I iron was doubling up as an impromptu sauna. But it got the job done. When my friend arrived she asked what I was doing ironing the sheets in the first place – that’s gratitude for you.
The iron is pretty spartan in design, it just contains a slide adjuster, with five separate adjustments for silks, wools, linen, cotton etc, and a steam button. The tank has a very sturdy screw seal which is secured once the water has been poured in. The tank acts like a pressure cooker, and the pressure builds up quite intensely, so you should not leave the iron unattended for too long, more so than with a conventional iron. The iron is connected to the base by a sturdy hose, which the steam passes up. The power cord runs into the base unit itself and a red light tells you when the iron is up to temperature. This is the only slight niggle as it can take up to ten minutes. If you try and steam before the unit is ready, you will get a clicking sound, rather than jets of steam. However you can still iron without the steam, and I have found this to be as powerful as my previous iron.
The tank itself seems quite big, as you are used to having nothing in that part of the ironing board. However, on a larger ironing board, it doesn’t get in the way of most items, and I place the unit on a flat surface, close to the iron, when ironing the larger items (like those dratted sheets).
For those of you who want the technical data, the iron outputs 60g/mn of steam.
In summary, I believe this has been a great purchase, ironing is still a chore, but a much better chore, and the price of this iron is pretty good compared to some of the newer steam station models.

Review of Tefal Ultraglide Pro Express Generator Iron
Advantages: smooth, effortless ironing in a fraction of the time Disadvantages: high price - but worth every penny
...‘shot of steam’ . The TEFAL PRO EXPRESS 2500, is one such product. To all intents and purposes it looks like a regular iron . However that is where the story begins. Attached to the iron by a hose is a water container which is heated, and generates high pressure steam. Depending on the size and power of the heater the amount of steam produced varies.
They never clog up. You can steam any fabric from denim to the most delicate silks. And the larger ... ...brand. But this Tefal has stood the test of time so far. We have had it for 18 months and it has certainly changed my wife’s life – for the better. Ironing that used to be a chore taking 3 hours and more, especially when both our sons were living at home, can now be dashed off in less than an hour. Quicker by far, smoother lines to all the clothes and a much less stressed out wife into the bargain. At what cost ? £149 !!!! A complete bargain.

Having to iron loads of pure cotton shirts every week is no joke.I bought this machine as it was recommended in a magazine which described it as the 'continental' way to iron, and supposedly much easier.I love it!
Although much more expensive than an ordinary steam iron, mine was about £150, it is worth every penny. It glides effortlessly through materials like thick denim and pure cotton.Once you have used one of these machines you will never return ...
