I have a question for all you Ladies. What household chore do you really hate doing? I’m guessing that, you are shouting ‘IRONING’ at the top of your voice.

Right then, may I suggest that you read this very carefully and add this item to the top of your Christmas wants list. OK I know it’s early, but some of you might have Birthday’s before then or maybe your hubby/boyfriend might fancy treating you – or again, the less stressed out you are after ironing, the the MORE time you have for HIM!

Ironing, is – so I’m told - the most tedious, time consuming job anyone has to do around the house. You stand there for ages trying (and often failing) to remove creases from clothes that look like they have been through World War 2 and lost.

Another question for you. How often do you browse around a Womens (or Mens, for that matter) clothes store and see all the items looking immaculate. Yet, after you get them home, wear them, wash them and iron them, they just never look quite as great as back when they were hanging in the shop. What is the secret?

My wife used to be Manager of a Ladies clothes outlet and told me that a great deal of the time they arrive in store looking no better than your wash at home, full of creases from being folded and packed in bags. But, to get those awful creases out, the stores use a high pressure steamer, that looks a little like a vacuum cleaner. Not something that has been generally available to the consumer until pretty recently.

Then came the arrival of the ‘Steam Generating Iron’ – not to be confused with an iron just giving you a ‘shot of steam’ . The TEFAL PRO EXPRESS 2500, is one such product. To all intents and purposes it looks like a regular iron . However that is where the story begins. Attached to the iron by a hose is a water container which is heated, and generates high pressure steam. Depending on the size and power of the heater the amount of steam produced varies.

They never clog up. You can steam any fabric from denim to the most delicate silks. And the larger water tanks mean that you can iron for longer without having to refill. They simply glide over and through the most stubborn creases leaving everything looking as if they had just been bought. Not only that, but you can iron clothes whilst they are hanging up, exactly as many of those clothes stores do that I mentioned earlier.

I bought one of these irons for my wife for Christmas 2000. It cost around £149 from Currys, if I remember correctly. At that time, there were very few competitors in the market. Morphy Richards also produced their own version and I believe Index – the catalogue shop – introduced their ‘own brand’ JMB into the arena (costing £89 – the cheapest). Looking at what is on offer right know, prices have not changed an awful lot, as you still have pay at least £100 to get a name brand.

But this Tefal has stood the test of time so far. We have had it for 18 months and it has certainly changed my wife’s life – for the better. Ironing that used to be a chore taking 3 hours and more, especially when both our sons were living at home, can now be dashed off in less than an hour. Quicker by far, smoother lines to all the clothes and a much less stressed out wife into the bargain. At what cost ? £149 !!!! A complete bargain.

Now for the tedious bit. What does it do? How fast does it go? And will it get those hard to deal with wrinklies out from under my eyes? (erm No – try Oil of Ulay)

• Instantaneous Turbo steam function - 100g/mn
• Highly effective pressure @ 3.5 bars
• Powerful steam flow @ 80g/mn
• Quick and easy storage of power cord
• Visible Water level
• Power - 2200W

I’m sure you ladies reading this will have your own little time saving, cost cutting tips and remedies. Things that you have bought over the years that have been a real godsend. But believe me when I say that this product will be better for you than a Multiple Orgasm!

AND It will last longer.

Thanks for the review - ironing is a real pia, even when hours are spent my cotton shirts might as well be screwed up dusters by the end of the day. I am going to get myself a steam generator iron.
