Its a BT line, but is run by Servista, so we get our bill through them, and cheap ... ...for calling Australia, which we were amazed, this is a huge saving from 40p per minute that BT charges, and it meant that we could call our freind and not worry about the cost.

Servista charge us 6p per minute for calling Australia, which we were amazed, this is a huge saving from 40p per minute that BT charges, and it meant that we could call our freind and not worry about the cost.
Well, I was searching the internet for Free International Calls, perhaps I was quite stupid in doing so, since there is not likely to be any such thing for free. Or maybe it wasnt stupid, because I stumbled upon this website, which said Low Cost International Calls.
So, I thought to myself, "If I cant get Free calls, at least look at the low cost calls". So, I went straight to the website, and had a look around.
The Style ========= I really do like the look of this website, it is neatly set out in a professional manner, unlike some other websites that look like they were made by a child. The colours used are perfect, and dont clash in any way. You see the logo at the top, with a ticker underneath of some of the calls you can make to different countries.
There is a blue menu to the left of the window, which I dont really use much. There is a white information section in the middle, which informs you about offers, news, and any changes. Then, finally, there is an orange section to the right of the window. This is where I use the site most. Here you can choose a country from a drop down list, like "Australia", and it will give you all the information straight away. Here is the information for Australia, since thats what i use it for.
To Landlines in Australia: 2p per Minute (Compare to the 5p OR 40p with BT)
Which you can get by calling this number: 0844 4620 620
Ill explain what happens in a minute.
To Mobiles in Australia: 10p per Minutes (Servista charge 25p, 40p with BT) WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!
You can call at this rate by calling this number: 0911 9120 120
The landline rate is amazing compared to BT, and the Mobile rate is amazing compared to BT and Servista.
ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN =================== OK, So you want to give this a try, and why not.
I will base the call to Australia, but is the same for whatever country you call.
These are the actions you will take:
1)Call the access number, so Dial 0844 4620 620 (This is for Australia remember) 2)The automated service will now talk for a bit, welcoming you and so on. 3)Dial the number in that country, eg. 0061 1234 567890
The 0061 is the international code for Australia, and then you miss the 0 from the area code. Eg. for UK 0044 1785 123456
4)Then press the # key to say that you have finished entering the telephone number.
5) And thats it, it will take a couple of seconds to connect, and you can get chatting.
The Good or the Bad? ==================== There is good news, and there is bad news.
Good news first? OK: Well, the good news is that there are no other charges what so ever. You dont get a bill from TeleDiscount, or any other company other than your telephone company, in my case its Servista. Some companies may charge you a yearly rate for using a service like this, but not with TeleDiscount.
You dont even have to open an account, nothing to register with, and nothing to sign. Trust me, this is basically a pay as you go service, but you just pay your (CHEAP) telephone bill.
NOW for the BAD news: Unfortunately, unless you have a BT line (ie not NTL, Telewest or Orange), you will not be able to use this service.
The reason for this according to TeleDiscount, is that "these networks(ie NTL and Telewest) don't allow this number to be called". Im sorry, because this is a great service.
But, if you have a freind with a BT line, you could ask them if you can call using their telephone line, and give them the money. But, then it wouldnt be as comfortable being in someone elses home.
There are hundreds of other countries on the website, so go and take a look.
REMEMBER: No contracts, No Additional Fees, BUT CHEAP CALLS.

In order to use the telediscount service, you need to visit www.telediscount.co.uk to identify the access number you need to dial in order to call the destination of your choice. Most Western European countries (+ USA, Australia and a few others) are accessible using a local call ... ...50p per minute. Check the telediscount for pricing. Advantages: Extremely cheap international calls Disadvantages: The "hassle" of having to dial an access number
...By simply dialling a Telediscount access code, I can make the same call for just 3p/minute, saving more than £7.00 each time! Too good to be true? That's what I first thought myself! But having used this system for years now I can confirm that there is no catch at all. This is a great service and everyone who makes regular international calls should know about it.

...I have switched over to Telediscount for the last year and have not regretted it. Using their access number I can now call abroad for the cost of a local rate which is using the 0845 access number at 4p per minute daytime, 2p evenings and 1p weekends. I usually rush in a few calls in the mornings before going off to work because of the time difference abroad. Needless to say I can now afford chatting for a little longer when it is only 1p a minute, ... ...Now I can use Telediscount using their access number 09013 340 340 at only 10p a minute! That is a pretty good saving -if anyone knows of any cheaper rate please let me know! In the weekends its cheaper using BT's Friends and Family which I believe is about 8p a minute.
You can also use this rate from your mobiles using the access number of 0844 5660660 which charges 5p a minute calling all 5p per minute destinations on their list. I also find the ...

Advantages: seriously cheap--and no messing you about Disadvantages: none that I've met
...use it if I did, Telediscount is a real bargain. I've not used it except to America, nor from my mobile or payphones, so have no comment on those points, and the summary one-word I've given relate only to my own particular use. I was happy using BT and telediscount to call Brazil, but onetel's offer for free UK national and local calls in the evenings caught my attention. Before subscribing to it I asked many times whether calling premium numbers would be more expensive than BT. Turns out that calling germany through telediscount through onetel cost me 50p per minute as opposed to 0.5p/min advertised... and onetel tells me it's because Collect Telecom UK charges Onetel for those calls... What a blast! a simple 10p call cost me £8!!! I called onetel on 09-05-06 at 18:15. let's see what i get, otherwise i will mercilessly go back to BT.
