I purchased the Lloyds Pharmacy version of this machine for my partner because he suffers from sciatica. It was £14.99 to buy and worth every penny.
I had hired a TENS machine previously for my labour pains and found it to be very effective so thoughtI might also be able to use this for period pain. I popped into Lloyds and found that this one cannot be used by pregnant mothers - so that is one to remember - but I was quite impressed with it's functionality for massage.
It runs from 2 AAA batteries (not supplied) and has two sticky gel pads (they can be reused and I've had mine for several weeks now with no reduction in suction - but you can buy extra sets from Lloyds) a cable and handy belt clip. The system runs for 15 minute and then turns itself off. (They recommend that you do not use it any more than 2 times in one day=30 minutes) It has 3 buttons in total so is great for any technophobes because it is soooo easy to operate.
For an item so small, the programmes are great. It has 8 programmes in total. Each program can be increased in intensity from level 1 up to 8. I have found 3-4 is more than enough for me! Programs A+B are for pain relieve specifically and emit little pricks to the surface of the skin. C is a slow vibration D+E a kneading movement that really feels like someone is massaging you skin. F is a faster vibration and G and H are special programs that take in all the different effects. G is for the upper back and H is for the lower. The manual that you get with it is very easy to understand and shows very clearly the areas where you can place the pads.
I have to say when I saw the item in the shop I did not think that it would do the job as I had used a TENS sytem before but this is excellent. It is worth more than £14.99 and my partner has reported that it relieves his sciatica really, really well. The wonderful thing I find is that it is portable and can be used under your clothes, clipped to you belt.
I can't rate this item highly enough. I have problems sleeping and find that 15 minutes just before bed really relaxes me. I also find that the shoulder massage really loosens up your shoulders after exercise. Even if you don't intend to use it for pain relief it is a fraction of the price that Shiatsu massage machines are and much, much stronger!
