A good five years ago I became the victim of id theft and fraud. At that time I never had the internet nor did I shop online (addict now) and had my few thousand pounds worth of my life savings stolen from my bank account, I had credit cards and a loan all out in my name. I had moved from a rental cottage to a new house and somewhere during this time it happened anyways a few thousand pounds may be nothing to some people but that was all the money I had and being on a low income it broke my heart. I cant go into to much detail, but the appropriate actions were taken. Ever since that I have took extra precautions to stop it happening again. I shop online with a pre paid card, and bought a shredder.
My last shredder was a hand winding one I have since upgraded to the Tesco 5 paper shredder much better.
The shredder is easy put together , you just place the shredder unit on top on the black wired basket and clip it on with the clips attached the the shredder unit and plug it in at the electrical socket. On shredding it claims to shred five papers at once this has never worked for me three at most any more and it gets blocked up. There is one switch on the unit push it forward and start shredding and put it on the backwards motion and it reverses the shredding only to be used if the shredder gets jammed up.
What I really like about this shredder is its a cross shredder and makes a great job at making the paper work unreadable and also stopping anyone getting the shredding out the bin to piece it back together.I now shred everything and it has become more of an addiction that a good habit often shredding everything that comes in the post and on a few occasions shredded letters that i was supposed to keep WOOPS. The shredder can take an A 4 sheet of paper side ways and that's how large the opening of the shredder is, although the blades are clearly very sharpe it would be hard to stick a finger in as the plastic surround stops that although i still keep it out of the way of my children.
I can live less paranoid now known my id is shredded to bits in the bin and unreadable. I do recommend the tesco five paper shredder although it does loose two stars because it does not shred five sheets at once!
