Following a special offer from the Tesco wine club (100 club points) I decided to shop at my local TESCO, following on from my purchase of white I decided to go for the Australian red. This was cheap at £2.62 for 75 cl.
***THE PRODUCT***
The wine came in a glass bottle 13% alc by volume. It has a screw top. The front label is small with a bluish colouring.
The back label has more detailed advice:
Style: A smooth, medium - bodied red wine with ripe, vibrant fruit flavours. Source: From inland regions of Southern Eastern Australia, Store: in a cool dark place. Best within one year, Once open drink within 2 days.
There is also advice on daily amounts for intake of average adults, male 3 - 4 units, women 2 - 3 units. Each 125 ml contains 1.6 units of alcohol glass contains.
***THE TASTE EXPERIENCE***
I served straight from the bottle at room temperature. A 125-ml glass. Somebody in the shop warned me that the red wine might be more full bodied than the white . This tended to effect my approach to the evenings tasting. the wine has a strong aroma, fruity tasty and full bodied. It tastes a little acidic but for the price surprisingly palatable for the price. An aid to cheeses like stilton.
***MY OPINION***
I bought this wine in rather a rush...thinking alcohol purchases in Tescos rather than wine consumption. Fortunately the event was not too offensive and the wine became better value for money as the consumption went on. Tesco had lower cost than elsewhere, the special offers helped....consider this when you buy alcohol at this store.
UNITS OF ALCOHOL: 1.6 per 125 ml glass (1 unit = 10 ml alc).
