It's not just building societies that can become banks, supermarkets can try to do it too!
Personal loans are available for any purpose. You get ... ...rates.
Tesco credit card facilities are offered at 6.2% for all transferred balances. You get Tesco points for every £2 you spend on your credit card too.
You can open a savings account and pay in at the till, or withdraw with a plastic card whenever you like. Its easy access. This does make it easier to save. If you have a little extra cash after doing your shopping you can put it into your savings account.

Personal loans are available for any purpose. You get a low rate of interest at just 9.6% and if you borrow over £5000 you get it even cheaper at 8.2%. This is excellent. If you look round and compare you find that this is one of the best interest rates.

You can set up an ISA account through Tesco and save paying tax on your savings, get you car insurance, home insurance and even life insurance from just 20p per day. There's pet insurance, foreign exchanges services, and even travel insurance.
This all sounds very good but something about a supermarket setting up a financial services section bothers me. It doesn't quite feel right to buy myself an ISA and insure my house while I'm stacking up a trolley with milk, cereal and baked beans. I might be old fashioned but I wouldn't expect my bank to start offering me six eggs and a packet of soap powder, now would I?

Advantages: good banking and easy to use Disadvantages: jumping from AOL to internet Explorer
Tesco.com/finance is what your looking for and simple to use site and when up and running easy to navigate. Paying in is simple, do when you pay your shopping in store. All the rest can be done online. Okay the log in first time takes you a while with all the security checks and the 22 digit first log on code does take a while to type, but when you are in you can check your balance, view your statement, transfer monies and check your tesco visa (if you have one). All in all a good bank...There is one small problem if you are with AOL you have to log on to AOL then minimize your box and open your internet explorer before logging onto Tesco. If you dont do this and ERROR will appear and very likely close down your AOL connection. As long as you remember this you should have no problems (I am not sure this happens to any other providers ...
Advantages: 24/7 banking pay in and withdraw at all tills Disadvantages: MAD paperwork have to jump though hoops.
when joining tesco for a savings account was pleased with the overall product, easy access at tills and cash machines. could pay in at any till in tesco, use of internet services and total control of how much i could withdraw, and when. however although the product was good actually getting hold of it was incredibly hard. once i had applied for it from a very nice gentleman it went down hill. a complecated letter came asking for all sorts of information to proove who i was, then i had to fill in form after form. why i had to proove who i was and my address once i had already given my clubcard details and would of happily shown the man some id, is beyond me! then after sorting out all of the mess of paperwork i finally recieved my card nearly 2 months later and had to activate it, fair enough. called the number, can't do it over the phone ...
Advantages: High interest rates and good service Disadvantages: Nowt
The Tesco and Royal Bank of Scotland seems excellent and I haven't got a bad word to say about the service. Their technical support and manner of service are excellent and the Internet Banking support is also very easy to use. The interest rates in relation to other equivalent accounts are also very good, see the website at www.tesco.co.uk/finance for more details. I wouldn't call myself a banking expert and therefore cannot, and will not go on all day about all the other aspects of the service, but having read all the other angry complaints about their banking service I just thought I would make a quick note about the reliability and slickness of this service. So if you want a high interest savings account that also has a Link card, then I'm sure you'll be impressed. ...

Good rates, good service, good branches: all the benifits of a building society without the disruption of carpetbaggers!
It's not officially a building society, and like all plcs, has a duty to make profits for it's shareholders. It does a good job of hinding this fact t (*)
