The 'butter me up' butter is great a spread but not that good for cooking (particularly for sauces like besamel). It does not mix well with the milk and it remains on the surface of the sauce... more

Advantages Advantages Big tub, resonably priced, good taste.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

This is yet another one of my bargain reviews. As most of you lovely readers will know I am a fan of bargains especially in the food shopping side of things, so I thought I'd tell you about my margarine/spread conquest, as Tesco have beaten the competition hands down once again. ~~The Packaging~~ The tub and lid are a sunny yellow colour with a blue band around it and the words Tesco and Butter me up! Spread written on it, a nice picture of a buttercup is on the tub and the lid and as you lift the lid off, you are greeted with a foil top, presumably to avoid contamination from unscrupulous ... more

Advantages Advantages Very Good Value For Money

Disadvantages Disadvantages Quite High In Fat And salt

As many of you who have read some of my previous reviews will know I tend to do most of my shopping at Asda. Today however I found myself in Tesco on my way home from work and must say I was pleasantly surprised. I called in just for a couple of essentials some milk and margarine and I was not tempted to put anything else in my basket despite the impressive prices. I did succumb to a little bit of physiological brainwashing on Tesco's part however because instead of walking out with my normal brand of margarine I found myself purchasing a 500g tub of Tesco's very own brand of margarine called ... more

Advantages Advantages It's really quite taste-free so doesn't mask what you're eating.

Disadvantages Disadvantages My wife thinks there's a 'smell' to it but I hadn't noticed.

Having used Tesco Butter Me Up for many years we decided to try Tesco Butter Me Up Light. (Isn't it a shame that companies don't produce taster/tester sized versions of new products?) Well, I used it in my (plain) mashed potato last night and it was the best tasting mash this side of cheesy-mash that I can recall. In my humble opinion it's worth a try. The other thing I like about both Tesco Butter Me Up & Tesco Butter Me Up Light is that there's no real 'taste' to them so you're aware of what you’re eating and not the spread itself – unlike another non-butter product that I could mention ... more

I always used to buy margarine. But I had a coupon for Tesco ' Butter me up' so bought a tub. Since then it's all I buy. It's not as buttery as say Anchor, but I think this is what I like about it. But comparing it to others such as Utterly Butterly there is no difference. I really don't know much about saturates and the like but it is high in mono-unsaturates and low in saturates. It has 95kcal in half ounce which is roughly what goes in your sandwich round or on your toast. As it's a vegetable fat spread it is suitable for vegetarians too. It also contains vitamins A and D. To be honest I ... more
