I don’t ordinarily purchase supermarket-cleansing wipes but I was tempted by these Cucumber Wipes from Tesco’s as they were only 99p for a packet of 25. I had initially gone out with the intention of purchasing my normal Johnson Wipes but as those were considerable y more expensive at £3.99 for the same sized pack, it was a fairly easy decision as to which ones to go for.
The packing is plain and simple. The pack is primarily white with a drawings of a small fresh looking cucumbers on the outer side. It is not immediately obvious upon first looking at the pack that they are a Tesco brand. Not that I am snobbish about buying anything from Tesco per se, it’s just that I don’t normally buy my facial cleanser or toner from supermarket brands. The pack opens by splitting the middle section and simply pulling the wipes out one by one, or as needed. They do come out individually, I am pleased to report, and not in small handfuls, as I have found with some other wipes. The wipes are large and white and surprisingly thick and of pretty good quality.
The wipes can be used to just freshen up (the face and / or hands) or they can be used to remove make up. As this was my prime reason for purchasing them, I tried them initially to remove my full day’s make up after work. I used them first around the eye area where I had bee wearing mascara, eye shadow, primer, foundation and eyeliner. As I tend to use rather a lot of make up for work, it soon became apparent that one wipe for EACH eye was going to be necessary. The make up came off well (though my mascara was not waterproof so I cannot say whether it would have removed anything but a simple Clarins mascara) but it cleaned the eye area well. The wipe felt fresh and didn’t sting the skin. They had what I would describe as a light fresh fragrance though I have to say that after I had finished using them all (four in total) my face felt rather sticky and tacky. These wipes lasted me only one week, mainly because I found I had to use so many of them to remove my make up. If I use my usual Johnson’s Wipes, I use less than half of this and if I am honest, I actually think I prefer Johnson’s as I find I have to rub less around the eye area in particular, and Johnson’s appear to remove all traces of my eye make up. I found the Tesco wipes good, but they just lacked the ability to be able to remove make quite as easily as the Johnson’s Wipes do.
On the positive side, they smell lovely, they are incredibly cheap and they appear to be kind to my skin. If I do decide to buy them again I think I will probably just use them to keep in my bag to freshen up, rather than using them to remove my make up.I will give these three out of five stars.
