Advantages Tesco prices on your doorstep

Disadvantages Some on petrol stations don't give clubcard points on fuel

Tesco Express stores are getting more and more popular, they can be found in many town or city centres or near petrol stations. They are similar in size to Spar shops, but in my opinion offer much better value. Many of the express stores have a few parking spaces close to them which is always useful. All your clubcard priviliges stay the same and you can use any vouchers in store too.

These shops tend to stock most 'every day' items, such as bread, milk, butter etc... they also have a good selection of ready made sandwiches and pasta. I find these ideal if you are in a city centre and are needing someting to eat, if you find an Express store you know you will be paying Tesco prices. They all have a lottery stand including scratch cards, as well as a full tobacco counter and often an alcohol section.

Many of the items in the express stores are at the same price of those in larger stores, the meal deals still apply, most drinks are the same. Some things you will find are more expensive than the larger stores, only by around 25p so it doesn't really bother me. A suprising thing with the express stores is that they hardly stock any of the Tesco Value range, it is mainly big branded items.

One thing worth noting, is that when you see a Tesco Extra in a petrol station, it doesn't neccesarily mean you will get clubcard points for your fuel. When i was working down in London i had to fill my car up to get home so went into a petrol station which i believed was Tesco. I filled up with fuel and also bought some lunch, when i looked at the reciept, i had only been given the clubcard points on the food, not on the fuel. I guess Tesco must have a deal with Texaco to use their building as a small store.

To summarise, I think the express stores are a very good idea, for many people it does save a lot of time driving to the larger stores. For the size of the shops, the range they offer is excellent, I am very impressed.
