Well I never thought I would find cheap, yet quality, car insurance at Tesco's but I was mistaken! If you like getting value for money then read on...
I have been surfing the net for cheap, but adequate, car insurance for my other half, as he nearly had heart failure the other night when his renewal came through and was a lot higher than expected.
Mind you, that may have something to do with the fact that he managed to get caught speeding in December and now has 3 points on his licence to show for it.
I decided to try out Tesco's as I have seen a lot of adverts for their financial products, and I liked what I saw. Their site is very easy to navigate, the form you had to fill in to obtain a quote was short, but to the point, and once you hit the submit button it was a couple of minutes wait until you got your quote, no having to ring around and spend ages answering lots of questions. And the best part was that if you go ahead with it over the internet you get a 5% discount (don't knock it, it all counts!).
Of course, if you don't feel comfortable paying over the internet, you can call them and still go ahead with the policy, but you would not get the 5% discount. Payment can be made with a credit or debit card, and there doesn't appear to be any additional charges for chosing credit instead of debit as there are with some companies. It does allow you to opt for monthly payments as well, so all the options are covered.
If you don't like the first figure you see you could opt to pay more voluntary excess and thus reduce the figure (the cumpolsory excess is about £200), or opt out of legal cover (which only saved you £17, so still worth considering as court and dsolicitor fees are normally a lot higher than that!) or decide you could do without a courtesy car if the worst did happen to you.
There are real savings to be had going through Tesco, as the renewal that came through was for £480, and this is taking into account over 7 years no claims bonus. If you are wondering whether the renewal is high because of the type of car, well it has a 1.6 engine, and he is just under 25, but I think it is more to do with his recently acquired points.
At Tesco's, even with points, the quote for fully comprehensive insurance was for £320, a saving of £160!
Just think what you could do with that extra £160, might even get you a last minute holiday deal!
If you do decide to give Tesco's a try, and like what you see, but still want to shop around, then that's okay too. The site allows you to opt for saving the quote which then remains valid for 30 days, giving you plenty of time to carry on the search. Then, if you decide you want to retrieve your quote, all you have to do is enter your folder number followed by your pin number, and you get instant access to it. You can then decide to go ahead with it, or just amend some details and save it again, it is entirely up to you.
Of course there is the additional benefit of getting clubcard points for this transaction, which, if you shop at Tesco's is a good bonus to your amount of points.
Driving is expensive as it is, why pay more for car insurance when you could get it for a lot less? I know I shall visit Tesco's site when my car insurance needs renewing in November! Will you?

Fully Comp + 6 Years Protected NCD - I've got a better package than with my previous insurer.
