The last insurance company i would have thought would have offered me a decent quote would be tesco.
Not because they have done anything in the past to put me off, i just thought Supermarkets would stick best to what they know! How wrong was i!
I stupidly bought my car (a 1.8 Peugeot 306 SRi) before obtaining any insurance quotes, i took the car dealers word for it that it would be cheap to insure. I hads to leave the car with the dealers for a week so this gave me a chance to sort out insurance.
I must have tried 20 or so insurers which qouted me on average about £1800 for third party insurance and, they said that the 1.8 engine and the SR badge had played a major part in the high costs
My friend had just got insurance from Tesco and was telling me how cheap it was, but his car was a 1.1 Litre Citroen Saxo which i didnt expect to be expensive, So i gave Tesco a ring and was pleasently suprised they quoted me £990 Third party which was half the price of other insurers i was shocked!
I checked the brilliant online website to see if they had made a mistake (Gives you online quotes)
I took out the insurance with Tesco and am very pleased with the service, In January 2003 my car was broken into through the back window and my back seats were damaged, New CD player and speakers ripped out i was devestated and contacted my insurers who were very helpful and dealt with the matter promptly, i only had to pay £100 excess which covered a new window, new back seats and a new CD Head Unit and Speakers.
The service at Tesco is excellent and i would recommend it to anyone, all my friends are now insured by them!
Ring Tesco last and save yourself some serious money.

Thanks for writing this. I'm still a learner and I'm getting my first car next week. I've been ringing around and Tesco have given me the second cheapest quote out of the 20-odd that I've called. Am very tempted by them and have heard more bad than good.
