Shopping around for good car insurance at a competitive rate can be a frustrating and time consuming affair. Tescos is relatively new to the insurance market but you can be assured of a competitive premium if you choose them.
We have been using Tescos for a couple of years now and unlike some other companies, after the first year, the premiums remain competitive. Usually after a few phone calls you end up renewing your insurance with someone else but this is not the case with Tescos. In addition to this there is the added bonus that you can apply for your insurance online. This also provides you with a 5% discount.
To apply online is simple. You just enter the Tescos website and select car insurance from the homepage. You are then taken through a number of screens where you provide personal information, car details, claim history/points etc. This is basically the same information which you would normally provide over the telephone.
A premium is then generated for you and if you are happy with the quote you can pay there and then by secure online payment with your credit card. Alternatively, if you wish to find further quotes first, a Reference number is also provided enabling you to return to your quote without having to re input all your information.
Once you have paid you are sent an email detailing your payment, and the insurance documents are received a couple of days later. If this is the first year you are insuring with Tescos you will be required to send proof of your No Claims Discount. This is normally provided with your renewal letter from your previous insurer and is sent in the provided returns envelope.
We have also been in the unfortunate position of having to claim on the insurance due to vandalism. Tescos were found to be efficient and helpful and the paperwork was completed quickly. We were also able to use the dealer approved bodyshop and not forced to use an insurance company's repairer.
One point to bear in mind is that a courtesy car does not come as standard. It is possible to add this to the policy but it is at extra cost. However legal fees and windsceen cover are included in the cost. As with other companies the excess for the policy is dependant on age and driving experience.
In conclusion, I would not hesitate to recommend Tescos car insurance to family & friends as they are competitive, efficient & a straightforward company to deal with.

Nice review - i note your point about the courtesy car, it never used to be offered even as an option as i found out to my cost. I find although Tesco prices are good the policy lacks a lot of essentials and i would advise any buyer to read the policy very carefully - Their policy nearly left me £5000 out of pocket after an accident.
