Although my 3 cats go outside I’ve always kept a litter tray for them just to avoid any little accidents while I’m at work. It was rarely used until recently when one of my older cats, poppy, hurt her leg and couldn’t get out for a week. Since this she’s become more of a house cat very rarely going further than the back door step. Other than this she’s her normal happy self so I’m happy for her to use the tray as long as she needs. I always used to buy Tesco value litter because it was hardly ever used but when I went to buy some they hadn’t got any on the shelf, instead I bought Tesco Low Dust Lightweight Cat Litter it cost Ł2.78 for a 10 litre bag.
The litter is in the usual style paper sack that litter is sold in. Its pink and yellow in colour with a cute cat pictured on the front. There is also a little circle showing the litter. On the front it says Tesco Low Dust Lightweight Cat Litter. It also informs the customer that it is highly absorbent neutralises odours is light weight and 99% dust free. On the sides of the bag are the directions for use, how to store the litter and a few warnings such as keep litter trays away from children and pregnant ladies should avoid any contact with soiled litter. It also gives a little green symbol to indicate that the bag is recyclable.
The litter looks totally different to any other I’ve tried in the past. Its very tiny little granules in an orangey/ sandy colour and has no smell. When I put the litter in the tray I noticed that as stated there was no dust. The cats all gave the new litter a good sniff and walked away.
We’ve been using this litter for 3 weeks now and its proved very successful. I find it relatively easy to scoop the soiled litter out despite it not clumping together very well. I do find it highly absorbent though and there’s absolutely no smells from the tray. After Poppy has done her business the litter seems to take the smell straight away, although if I’m there I always remove any poops straight away, but when I come in from work I never open the door to be greeted by a pong which is good.
Overall I’m pleased with this type of litter and will certainly continue to use it. The only negative I’ve found is that it does tend to stain Poppy’s white paws a sandy colour sometimes. At first I couldn’t make out how her paws were getting this colour as she doesn’t go out but on reading the warnings on the bag a little closer it does state that this may sometimes happen. It soon wears off though and Poppy doesn’t seem in the least bit bothered by the occasional staining of her paws.
I would recommend giving this litter a try, there’s no dust and no smells and although its exactly double the price of the value litter I think in the long run it’s the better buy.
