Low dust...really?

Advantages absorbent
Disadvantages small particles and doesnt hold smells
I’ve always had a cat and always had to buy litter. I’m not particularly loyal to any brand and tend to like experimenting. The litter I find the best is Catsan or Bob Martin; but refuse to pay over the odds for a bag of clay that ultimately is going to be my cats toilet!
I bought the Tesco dust free litter because it appeared to be good value for money.*Price and availability*
The price of the litter is £2.89 for a 10L bag. This works out at 29p per litre. So far the maths work and seems good value for money. The litter is available from most Tesco stores.*Description*
The litter comes in a large beige and salmon bag. At the top of the bag is a white handle so you can carry it around. There is no specific “cut here” or easy pourable corner on the bag so I ended up ripping it and it was really hard to pour out without it spilling. I guess more care is needed next time. The Litter grains are made from a base of molar clay which is then fired so that they are able to work to absorb as much fluid as possible when in use. They are very small and coloured in a pink/ grey colour. They smell as delightful as most litters; which is like rubble and dust.
*My experience*When pouring the Tesco Low Dust Lightweight Cat Litter, I was a little disappointed to find that low and behold, just as much dust came off the pouring as other litters. A cloud of litter dust particles hung around as I poured and I really struggled to see what Tesco mean by “Low dust.”
The pellets are very small, so they take up a larger area. (Think fitting pebbles into a glass and then grains of sand in a glass, you need more of the latter.) This means that more is needed to cover the litter tray floor. I like to put at least 4-5 cm of litter down as my cat likes to have a good dig after wards. This brings me on to my next point, when he had been to the loo and proceeded to try cover it up; again the particles kicked up a load of dust. He also kicked out a load of the litter, which due to the size is a pain to sweep up.
An advantage to the litter though is that it holds its shape when wet. I have had litter before that seems to disintegrate when wet. Unfortunately though it does not hold on to smells and I have to change the litter tray more when using this litter than with others. It just doesn’t hold on to smells at all. This is an advantage of the more premium cat litters. For the price, the litter is okay as far as litter goes. I have used better litters for around the same price though and probably will not use this particular one again.
