When I bought my first Cavalier King Charles Spaniel I decided that I should buy pet insurance. I tried various insurers and finally bought the insurance from Tesco because, at that time, they were the cheapest and not knowing anything about pet insurance, didn't know any better! When my CKCS took ill I put in a claim. Tesco were very good and paid out the claim promptly. Then my dog had "dry eyes" and, again, Tesco paid out the claim each time I submitted it. It was only in the later stages that I realised they would only pay out on the claim for 12 months. Consequently, when the 12 months were up, they would not cover the "dry eye" condition and I have to pay £39 per tube of treatmentplus £18 vet consultation fee.
When I bought my second CKCS I shopped around for insurance and eventually went with Saga Pet Insurance which covers the dog for life (and was slightly cheaper than Tesco!). I have since added my first CKSP onto this policy although they have excluded the "dry eye" condition for a period of 12 months with a view to reviewing the condition. But I have the knowledge that if any of my dogs takes ill for a period of longer than 12 months then they are covered.
All in all, Tesco pet insurance is good - they do not quibble in paying out the claims - but you need to be aware of their 12 month clause.

Thanks for the review. I have a young cat who is healthy at the moment but being a responsible owner I decided to insure him anyway. I came across the problem of the 12 month limit per illness when I was shopping around for insurance. I settled with More Than which charge a reasonable £8.99 pm, gave me the first two months free as I applied on line (saving £18 off my yearly premium) and will treat the same illness for an unlimited time. x

I am very pleased to have read this opinion as this is my current problem with another insurance company and I was just about to change to Tesco's so this has saved me the trouble of looking further into theirs as it has the same problem as mine.
thankyou.
Advantages: 5% discount for online quotes, easy to apply, competitive premiums, helpful staff Disadvantages: need to get letter for NCD proof, (not available in R.O.I or Northern Ireland)
