Review of Tesco Premium Supermeat Meaty Chunks dog food
The Product
A tinned dog food suitable for adult dogs.
Tesco own brand Premium Meaty Chunks dog food is a regular in my shopping trolley. Ever seeking a bargain, I switched my dog's diet from branded dog meats to this alternative around a year ago. The product comes in a plastic wrapped 6 can pack. Each can weighs in at 400g and the pack contains 2 cans each of chicken, beef and heart and lamb flavours. The cans are easy to open by means of a ring pull, so no messy tin openers to wash.
The meat is firm and evenly cubed within the thick jelly like gravy. As with many dog foods it does smell a little 'ripe', however to a dog I am sure the aroma is mouth watering!
My dog Sam, an adult border collie cross, is not a fussy eater, he will eat more or less whatever I choose to feed him. This particular dog food is one of the two or three lower priced foods I buy him. I usually mix the food with a little mixer type biscuit, as my dog gets on well with foods with a little crunch to them.
I believe that dogs actually do not really care about variety, it is we humans who feel that we should give them a different flavoured meal daily, just as we would prepare differing meals for ourselves. My dog cleans his bowl every mealtime so I cannot claim that this is his favourite or he enjoys it more than XYZ brand!
What I have noticed however, is that after eating this particular food he is less 'windy' and he seems to digest it well, no rear end problems at all....Oh dear the info we share on this site!
I won't bore readers with a list of ingredients or nutritional values as I do not feel it is necessary for this particular product.
A very basic feeding guide, appertaining to the size of your dog in relation to how many tins to feed is printed on the wrapper, but again, dog owners will know how much their particular animal's breed is likely to consume, so I won't insult anyone's intelligence by replicating the advice in my review.
Price and Availability
A 6 can pack currently costs £2.80. I must comment that this price has risen steadily over the year that I have been purchasing it. At first it was around the £2 mark, but in line with many other items on my shopping list, has increased somewhat.
Available from Tesco Stores Ltd or on line at www.tesco.com
This is a good quality dog food, the meat is firm and the gravy not runny or watery. As with many pet foods, it is a little on the smelly side. A word of caution to dog owners, if you are thinking of changing your dogs diet, I would suggest introducing the new food gradually, in order to avoid stomach upsets that a new diet can occasionally cause. I had no problem with Sam when we introduced Tesco's own branded dog food, but I think he has cast iron lining his tum!
My dog certainly enjoys this food and if he could talk, I am sure would recommend it to other canines and their owners!
Thank you for reading.
