I've had them for about a year now and the only reason I'm tempted to replace them is that I recently got my hair cut quite short so I need ones with narrow plates. I'd reccomend these for anyone who is maybe considering straighteners but doesn't want to splash out on expensive ones, ... ...shiny sleek effect that straightening gives.

They come in one of those laminated plastic packages you can't open no matter how much you try. You know the ones that Tamagotchis used to come in and, ironically, scissors. You need a pair of sharp scissors to cut around all 4 sides of the package before you can prise it open.

I had my GHDs until just after the 1-year warranty was up, when they promptly exploded in a shower of sparks. So, just as a temporary thing until I could afford some new ones, I dashed out to Tesco and got a pair of their ceramic straighteners. They look pretty much the same as GHDs and they were only £10. I'd reccomend these for anyone who is maybe considering straighteners but doesn't want to splash out on expensive ones, or who doesn't have particularly curly hair but wants the shiny sleek effect that straightening gives.

After that though, things get much easier. Mine have a little dial that alters the temperature between 120*C and 200*C - GHDs go up to 210*C, and they heat up in about a minute. They have a little green light that tells you when they're at the right temperature. They also have an on-off switch - obvious maybe, but my GHDs didn't have one.
I always use it on the highest setting because I have quite thick hair, but if you have finer hair you could probably use it on the lowest setting and reduce damage. If you have very wavy or curly hair, I doubt they'd get your hair poker-straight without spending about half an hour on it, so if you want quick, dramatic effects, you'd probably need quite fine hair for these to do the trick.
I won't pretend these are as good as GHD, because they're not (how could they be!), but they do make your hair shiny and straight, you just have to take a little longer on it. I use mine to create flicks, and I find if you create the style with a hairdryer first and leave your hair just slightly damp, when you use the straighteners it'll keep the style and make your hair nice and sleek and shiny.
Conclusion
I'm giving them 4* because they impressed me so much, for £10. Plus, they haven't spontaniously cumbusted like my GHDs did. Always a bonus.
I wouldn't reccomend them for anyone who has a high-maintenance hairstyle, or particularly curly hair, but for anyone with just wavy hair, they'll make it straight and sleek in about 10 minutes for only £10 ^_^
Advantages: They actually work! Disadvantages: I burn my fingers on the hot irons - but I'm very clumsy anyway
£50 on a pair if they don?t work. For some strange reason, my eyes keep falling upon the Remington Ceramic Straighteners. They look really slender, easy to handle, on/off switch on the side, plug comes with, they are plain black thongs with pastel yellow ceramic irons. To top it off, Remington is a good, well known brand. The price was, well I thought the price was really reasonable - £24.99! I have also later found out that you can buy these very same Straighteners from Tesco for £21.95. But it?s only a few quid difference I suppose, but it?s always the way isn?t it? Buying something and then finding out the exact same product is on sale elsewhere for cheaper! Doh!
I finally pick the box up and make my way over to the cashier and hand over my Switch Card (time is also getting on and my lunch-break is almost over) - need to get ...
