Milk? Why oh why have I decided to write about milk? I am I that desperate for a few pennies, or am I just bored? Well, perhaps both? No, seriously, neither. I asked Ciao for this specific product to be added to the milk section because it is in fact a damn good product, one which you may actually decide to try, and be quite pleased with. My initial decision, as is quite often the case, for buying Tesco value Dried Skimmed Milk was based on cost. At just £1.58 for a 454g/1 lb box I figured if I got 10 pints out of it then I was getting a pretty good bargain. Now the Tesco value range, if ... more

Milk is so versatile but something I don’t enjoy. I hated the little bottles of milk we had at school, it used to make me feel sick with an inch of cream at the top of the bottle. But I know how important milk is in the diet for strong bones and an important source of calcium in the diet. I do drink it in tea and coffee and if I have cereal for breakfast but I use most of my milk in sauces and if I haven’t a lot of fresh milk then I use dried milk. Marvel was my first choice but recently I have been buying Tesco’s dried milk, but when shopping last week they only had the Tesco Value pack or ... more

Advantages Advantages Long shelf life, better for you than semi skimmed or whole milk, extremely good value

Disadvantages Disadvantages doesn't taste brilliant but it's not too bad

I’ve been living with Stephen (my fiancée-superstevo on here), for almost 6 months now and there is one thing that we have recently (over the past 2 months) discovered… Powdered milk is cheaper and lasts longer than fresh milk. But what possessed us to buy powdered milk in the first place? It looked interesting? Nope! Pure curiosity? Nope! Value for money? YES! Stephen and me have a very tight budget most of the time so we don’t have the money to buy fresh milk every other day. Before I moved out I didn’t think you needed that much milk but we seem to get through 2-3, 4 ... more

I always buy skimmed milk and always make sure I have a couple of cartons of long life milk in the cupboard for emergencies but when I did my shopping recently I spotted Tesco do a powdered dried skimmed milk, I wasn’t sure whether to buy it or not as it was in their value range, now I am generally a big fan of the Tesco Value range but for some reason this just didn’t really appeal to me, however I decided to buy a box and give it a try although I didn’t hold out too much hope for it. PackagingThe dried skimmed milk comes in a box that just screams value, it is mainly red and white and ... more

This stuff is great. Mum won't buy it but my mate gets it and it works out really really cheap. She gets it from Tesco (obviously) and it's in their own basic range, kinda no fills thing, and it costs about £1.50 and you just add water to it. I think when I've helped to make it we put in 4 tablespoons to a pint of water and then just stir. It dissolves really well and here's no lumpy bits, like you'd think there would be. A one pound box of this stuff makes in between 12-16 pints of pretty good milk, so that works out much cheaper than the real thing. My mate has it on her breakfast cereal and ... more
