Advantages Very cheap
Disadvantages Rather thin and not very soft
Tissues were a very difficult find in my house before my daughter appeared on the scene, loo paper used to be used for the occasional blowing your nose and it would be a special trip to the chemist or supermarket if either my husband or me had a cold. This all changed on the birth of my daughter, tissues became a regular purchase on my weekly shop.
With the rapidly increasing cost of my grocery shopping recently, I have noticed more and more Tesco Value products entering my trolley. One of these products is Tesco Value Tissues. In the past I have purchased Tesco Balm Tissues at £1.49 a box and have been using them to wipe up after my 2 ½ year old daughter, a complete waste of money I thought just for wiping up after her spills so when I spotted the value tissues hidden away at the bottom of the tissue shelves for the princely sum of 27p a box I thought I would give them a try.The box is 7cm deep 23cm long and 12cm wide and is white with the standard Tesco Value blue and red logo. Also on the bottom of the box is a logo for FSC with a tick and a tree. I have just checked the internet to see what this stands for and it means that the product has been independently certified to assure consumers that the product comes from forests that are managed to meet the social, economic and ecological needs of present and future generations. This actually surprised me as I must admit I was expecting the value products not to be environmentally friendly due to the cheap costs. It also states on the bottom of the box "Helping you to protect the world's forests".
The box contains 150 2 ply tissues. The tissue when pulled from the box is 20cm x 11cm. When fully opened it is 20cm x 19cm. OK so the tissue is not very thick and not very soft but it does the job of wiping food away from children's mouths and the odd blowing of the nose adequately. The tissues are just a very plain white colour and no fancy patterns on them or no embossment to hold to two sheets together. There is no interlinking, so when you pull one tissue out you only get one tissue and the other tissue does not follow on, but hey ho you can't expect everything. For 27p I can afford to have a box of tissues in every room instead of running around like a headless chicken looking for a tissue. I am also not too bothered when my daughter grabs the box and sits ripping the tissues into thousands of little pieces to make it look as though we have had snow in the lounge.
I would say that if you had a cold, I do not really think they would be up to the job aside from being rather thin, they are not very soft and I can envisage a rather sore nose. So I will be keeping a couple of boxes of the more expensive balm or Aloe Vera tissues in the house. These tissues are now a regular purchase on my shopping list. Many thanks for reading. Anna

I used to like making snow out of tissues too - my Mum used to buy fairly cheap ones too for that reason alone lol! Eleanor x
