I have really sensitive skin and nails that tend to break easily. A few months ago I decided that to protect both my nails and skin I really should start using rubber gloves whilst undertaking household tasks. Initially I opted for the well known Marigold brand believing they would be of good quality and last well. However after my first pair lasted for just under a month I decided to give Tesco’s value brand a try.

Tesco value rubber gloves cost just 53p for a pack of 2 yellow gloves. The packaging is decidedly uninviting and is predominately a plain white plastic bag with blue and red colouring. The bag is easy enough to tear open to reveal two pairs of rather thin looking yellow rubber gloves.

I have small to medium sized hands and had no problem getting these gloves on. In fact they fitted really well with no excess rubber at the ends of my fingers and neither were they too tight. Unlike Marigold the cuffs have no raised seam and they don’t come as far up my wrists as the Marigold ones.

Although these gloves feel and look thin they did a good job in protecting my hands from hot washing up water. I have used the second pair to protect my hands whilst cleaning my oven and washing down paintwork. Both pairs have performed well and after a month only one pair has started to tear at the thumb. The pair used for washing up is still in good shape!

The gloves can be a bit tricky to pull off after use but this was the case with the more expensive Marigold branded gloves too. Marigold gloves have a ridge along the plam to help give the gloves a good grip. The Tesco value pair have no ridge although they are not especially slippery.

The instructions on the packet suggest you dry the gloves after use ,although this is a bit hit and miss as far as I am concerned. I do hand the gloves over my taps when not in use and I think this helps prolong their life.

Overall I think these value gloves are an excellent buy and will definitely be buying them again!
