Review of Tesco Value Sliced Peaches in Light Syrup

The Tesco Value range of budget priced products is well known, some items are excellent, others are not so good. The Value range Sliced Peaches in light syrup falls into the former category.

The value range consists of everyday items at low prices. The products are packaged simply and marketed as basic essentials. The range is instantly recognisable with it's mainly white packaging with the Tesco logo and product description in blue and red.

The Product

Value Peaches come in a recyclable steel can, the can does not have a ring pull opener, so a standard tin opener will be required!. The can contains 410g of sliced peaches in syrup. The weight of the actual fruit, when the syrup is drained is 250g. The peach slices are sometimes a little oddly shaped and of differing sizes, although as the quality is usually very good, this doesn't worry me.

Eating- the all important bit

These peaches are very good, the fruit is generally fairly firm without being hard and I have yet to find any particles of peach skin or stone, something I simply cannot stand! On opening the can the peaches appear to be well packed in the syrup and the delicate aroma of peaches hits you. The fruit is succulent, tasty and as long as you don't wish to use the peaches for anything where shape is vital, the occasional oddly shaped slices do not matter. The syrup is not overly sweet and there is no after taste or artificial flavour or colour in the product.

We use these peaches quite regularly, mainly just as they are for a dessert. I do strain them as I don't care for fruit swimming in syrup. The peaches lend themselves well to mixing with other fruits to make a fruit salad, just the job on a summer's day. They would be delicious added to ice cream or served in a fruit crumble, a very versatile item to keep in your store cupboard!

Ingredients, nutritional values and cost

Ingredients
Not a long list for this product, peach slices, water, sugar, glucose fructose syrup and citric acid.

Nutritional values per 100g
67calories
0.4g protein
16g carbohydrate
0.1g fat
0.8g fibre

Cost
I remember buying these peaches a few years ago for a tiny 9p per can, however in line with many other products the price has risen of late and they now cost in the region of 28p per can, still a bargain in comparison to branded tinned fruit.

My thoughts and conclusion

A budget product that does what is promises to do, this good quality fruit in a light syrup wins the thumbs up from me and my purse! Not too sweet or high in calories, an ideal dessert for the penny concious! I heartily recommended this product to others.

I've never tried these but I do tend to buy tinned fruit in juice as I find syrup a bit too sweet

Excellent review! I used to love peaches. Although the texture of them makes me shudder.

I keep some of these in for emergency puddings for the kids! Rebecca Xx
