97Working in an office where my job involves a lot of confidential paperwork, I am well aware of the dangers of leaving paperwork lying around, so am really conscious of shredding anything that has any details of mine on it.
I used to have a tiny shredder at home with a windy handy, but this was just something cheap and cheerful and wasn’t great to be honest so I decided to invest in a better quality one. Although I wanted one that was better than my previous one, I also didn’t want to spend much money so I went for the Tesco Value Strip Cut Shredder. This is a decent sized home shredder which stands at 30cm high, 25cm deep and 10.5cm wide. It is mainly black and has a 7 litre bin. You can put 5 sheets of A4 paper through at one time which saves time, but it has got stuck a few times so I tend to stick to 3 or 4 sheets maximum to prevent problems.
This is a strip cut shredder, rather than a cross cut shredder so the pieces aren’t as small as they would be with a cross cut shredder, but the strips are really thin and it would be almost impossible to put the strips together to get any information off it so I am confident that my paperwork has been shred to a degree where my details cannot be made out and stolen. The price of this shredder when I purchased it around 4-5 months ago was £11.97, though I have checked the current price for the purpose of this review and at the moment it is on offer for £7.97, which is really good value for money.
The shredder is really easy to use too. You simply flick the switch which is located on the top of the lid insert the edges of your paper into the slot. The shredder then pulls the paper through and shreds it into the base. To empty the shredder is easy, you simply remove the lid and pour the contents of the base into a bag and dispose of in your bin – simple! The shredder is mains powered and has an auto and reverse shred function so this takes very little effort compared to my other manual one which has now found its way into the bin. The only real problem I have found with this one is that it is a little noisy, but nothing that really causes a problem at all.
Overall, this is a decent household shredder. It wouldn’t be much good for business use if you are shredding copious amounts of paperwork on a daily basis, but for general household use this is perfect. As it is from the Tesco value range, it isn’t very expensive and does the job well. It shreds into small strips which aren’t legible and therefore you know you are safe from problems such as identify theft and fraud with this shredder. The shredder is available from Tesco stores and comes with a recommendation from me.
