I absolutely love tuna but I will admit that I am super fussy when it comes to buying it as a lot of them can be quite fishy tasting or way too dark in colour so imagine my surprise to find that my fave tuna happens to be tesco blue n white stripey value pack!

The tuna comes in the usual kinda of small tuna tin, kinda like a quarter in height of a tin of beans or something similar. The annoying thing though is that these tins don't come with a ring pull lid so you actually have to hunt out the old tin opener, though saying that it also means you wont end up covered in tuna juise so to speak if its tough to get off! The tin itself has the usual blu and white tesco valus label on it, not the most exciting i'll admit but then its whats inside that counts in the end!!

I like that fact that this tuna comes in brine, so when your done squeezing the "juice" out you don't end up covered in an oily residue. The smell isn't too strong which is great and the meat itself is the perfect pinky colour that my mind tells me tuna in a tin should be.

This particular tuna is just the right amount of "fishy" its not overly strong and pongy and yet it still has enough flavour to make the perfect sandwich, jacket potato, pasta or whatever you wish....and of course I have to share it with my cat every time I open a tin....its like she has tuna radar! Another great thing is that tuna is super healthy and fish is apparently 'brain food' but serously at around 101kcal per 100g drained you really cant go wrong.

Nutrition Facts:

nutrient per 100g (drained):
Energy kCal 101 kCal
Energy kJ 427 kJ
Protein 23.8 g
Carbohydrate 0.0 g
of which sugars 0.0 g
Fat 0.6 g
of which saturates 0.2 g
Fibre 0.0 g
Sodium 0.3 g

I have to say I am also well pleased with the price, it costs 59p per 185g tin which is great considering tuna prices seem to have soared these days and most "brand" named tuna would cost you over £1 for the same size tin.

So all in all I have to say this is one value range product that I am well pleased with and will continue to buy it, lets just hope they keep the price right and don't join in with everyone else in the raising of tuna costs!

Thanks for reading

This is an occassional treat for my cats.

Hmm. I'm suspicious that the "value" is because this is probably net caught and not line caught. I only buy line caught tuna as it is more sustainable and ecologically sound. Good review. 8^)
