I was looking for a change from my normal washing powder which my Mum in law gets us from a home delivery man, not because it wasn't any good but just for a change.

THE PACKAGING The washing powder is sold in a purple, cardboard box, colour wise quite easy on the eye. The front of the box has the word 'Colours' in red with 2 females running in the right hand corner. Also featuring at the top of the box is the Tesco logo and a 'Colour Kind' logo. The back cover features instruction on how much powder is needed per wash and directions for use, more on that later.
One side panel has an easy pour pull tab along with product information & environmental information & the other side panel contain a piece of advertising/advice from sustainable-cleaning.com.
I noticed the packaging was fairly robust and there had been no spillage in transportation.
THE OPENING & THE SMELL I didn't actually use the easy pour function on this box as I use a scoop for my powder, I therefore opened the top flap, which was fairly difficult to open, and I ended up getting a kitchen knife to try to open it. It did open and it didn't actually teat the box at all despite my rather vigorous opening technique.
The smell is pleasant, it is fresh and smells like a washing powder normally does, it isn't particularly overwhelming thought. In my opinion this doesn't smell as good as some of the branded powders but are you really buying this for smell alone? I doubt it.
THE POWDER The powder is a white fine grain powder; it doesn't feature any colour flecks in it like some brands. It appears to but easy to dissolve because of the granule size.
WASHING INSTRUCTIONS On the back of this powder, you find your directions for use, which are as follows:
Water Hardness:
Soft Light soiling 75ml Normal soiling 110ml Heavy soiling 195ml
Medium Light 75ml Normal 150ml Heavy 235ml
Hard Light 150ml Normal 195ml Heavy 265ml
The pack states that the standard number is based on the dosage for normal soiling in a medium water hardness area, for a 4-5kg load washing machine, for larger load machines (i.e. those taking 6-7kg capacities) use an extra 30ml of powder.
Handwahing: Dissolve 100ml of powder in 10 litres of water. Prewashing: Add an extra 100ml of powder into your pre-wash drawer and select from your machines programmes. CARE INSTRUCTIONS Normal instructions can be found here for soaking, colour fastness and hand washing, I won't bore you to death with them as I don't think they are as important as normal washing instructions & of course I want to give you an air of mystery about they product & make you want to go out and buy it!
WARNING INSTRUCTIONS: Keep away from children Keep away from eyes Rinse & dry hands after use People with sensitive skin should avoid prolonged contact Do not ingest.
THE WASH: I used this predominantly for a half load or washing of normal soiling. I live in a soft water area & I was using a 110ml scoop of powder with Comfort Crème fabric softer. I washed at 50 degrees and on a one hour fast wash setting. I will talk about the results as if I have already washed the clothes and am looking at the garments after washing.
A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF MY WASHING:
Shirts: Hubby works in an office and it doesn't get particularly hot and sweaty in there (or he's not working very hard) but he does manage to get pasta sauce stain on the front and has deodorant marks under the arms, the powder managed to get out a small amount of pasta sauce stain from the front and also cleared the deodorant marks. This gets a 9/10
Jeans: I spilt pasta sauce on a pair of glittery jeans; the powder did not take this stain out first wash. I decided against stain treatment and decided just to wash again on their own. 2nd time around the jeans came out clean but I was disappointed in having to use the powder again so this gets a 6/10
T-Shirts: I got floored by 4 golden retrievers in my local park whilst walking my dog. My yellow t-shirt was covered in mud, doggy slobber, grass stains and doggy poo- YUK. I popped this in with a half load of other cotton garments and it came out fine, the colour was very bright and it smelt lovely. 10/10
Undies: I wash our undies separately from the rest of our washing; don't ask me why, I have just always done so. I had a combination of cotton undies & boxer shorts, lacy knickers and invisible material knickers. It cleaned very well although the colour on my husband pants weren't quite as bright as mine and this was a little disappointing but they were clean and in the end that's all that matters. 9/10
Towels: Now this is where I have found the powder to be disappointing. I washed a half load of white Egyptian cotton towels I had used to dry the dog with after he had been swimming in someone's muddy pond. They had mud and grass stains on and after a 50 degree wash, you could still see the mud, disappointing. I washed them again & yet again the mud was still obvious. I upped my wash temperature to 60 degrees for a third wash; the mud went on this wash. 3/10 for this.
STAINS I think this powder copes well with most stains, however it doesn't like: Anything with red dyes in, i.e. Pasta sauce Mud Mustard Blue stains, I knocked toilet duck on myself, it didn't remove it first time. Grease stains can be hit or miss.
HOW IT COMPARES: I actually prefer this powder to my normal SA8 Premium powder I was previously using, even though it doesn't always wash as well BUT I prefer the smell and the amount of powder I have to use is much less. Saying that, I prefer Ariel over both as I do get good results every time, I would rather pay the extra money NOT to have to re-wash garments because of tough staining.
MY VERDICT OVERALL Well, it does what it claims, it cleans and keeps clothes bright and no bleaching has occurred on any of my washing loads. In a soft water area like mine the pack affords good value for money, especially if you manage to get one of the many offers that Tesco both in-store and online, hard water washers may find that this powder may not clean as well as leading brands and may leave marks on clothes. I have noticed if I put one item in my wash with a 110ml scoop, I do end up with a few white flecks on my clothes but these are easily brushed off once the garment is dry. I have found also, that after washing the scent of the powder stays put but if I wash then tumble dry I loose the scent completely whereas with Ariel I keep my fragrance. If you have time to repeat heavily soiled and you want to save yourself some dosh on your shop, this powder offers good results. Sadly they aren't consistent on tough stains and it seems to have 'off days' where one day it will cleanse a stain but the next day it will avoid it altogether! None of our clothes have suffered for using this and it is a great daily wash powder & despite hubby and I both having slightly sensitive skin, we have both found this to be fine for us. All in all, great for everyday use on 'normal stains', maybe not for you if you have a footy team to look after or work in a particularly messy industry. I would recommend this but only for light to normal soiling.
Advantages: Cheap, colourful box Disadvantages: Box isn't big enough
...thought that I would put Tesco own brand non-bio washing powder to the test. Being on a strict household budget, I'm always after the best deal that I can find and was pleasantly surprised by this.
Tesco do various other own brand washing powders, such as Bio, Colours and Value, but I have always chosen the non-bio one for as long as I can remember.

I spotted the box in the laundry and pet food aisle of my local Tesco's supermarket, ... ...Below that are the famous Tesco logo and a bright white sock and non-bio washing powder and dermatologically tested written on the front. The box also advises that you can get up to 45 washes out of this box, providing that you use the correct dosing for soft water areas.
To the side there is a warning label which advises that this box should be kept out of the reach and sight of children as well as the product information, Tesco's promise to their ...

...So I bought it. Tesco Summer Fresh two in one washing tablets, 15 washes worth costing a bargainous £1.77, or 18 pence per wash. It comes in a bright yellow (yay!) box, and is also available in packs of 18 tablets for just 9 washes.
So I bought it, and happily discovered that the good people at Tesco even provide you with a net bag (Which they call a "dosing device". Saucy.) which is useful if you're a first time buyer, but at the 50th box, you ... ...via which you can order a totally free "dosing device", isn't it false economy to give a net bag away with every box? And bad for the environment.
But anyway, the tablets are in little plastic packets of two-- the amount they suggest for the average wash-- but that again is bad for the environment. tsk. But the box is very useful, giving full instructions and handy advice, but it doesn't say if it's non biological or biological. Weird-- the side ...

...washing powder, so over to Tesco I went.
Having forgotten my bank card and needing several items, I decided to buy Tesco Value automatic biological washing powder.
Why choose biological ?
**************************
Well, biological powder has enzymes in it which dissolves food on clothes, therefore helping to remove stains. Biological powders work better at cooler temeratures, enzymes are destroyed at high temperatures making them unaffective. ... ...product is ONLY available at Tesco stores, so if you do not have one nearby then you will not find it.
Tesco also do a larger size box of the same product which is even better value than the one I bought.

...One of my discoveries was Tesco washing powder.
So well priced at £1.79, for your average size box.I thought I would buy one box, as at that price, I could afford to take a chance.
I bought the colour version. It said on the box that it cleans as well as well known brands, but I didn't read too much into that.
Home I went. After all the fussing around, and living in a village, it was too late for me to turn old faithful washer on.
I put the washing ... ...morning to get started on my mountain.
The first thing I noticed was this really fresh smell appeared overnight in my cleaning cupboard.
I used the washing powder, easy to open, and found the same smell raising up from my washing powder dispenser.
I wash on the 'H', and thought that I wouldn't get the smell surely from that low a cycle.
I DID! My kitchen smelt of this flowery, sweet, clean smell. A similar smell that colour washing powders all ...

~~PRICE AND AVAILABILITY~~
As this is a Tesco?s Value brand product then it is only available in Tesco?s stores. It comes in a 2kg size box which gives roughly 30 washes. It is priced at a bargain £1.68.
~~OVERALL~~
After using the full box of this powder I have to say that I was indifferent with the results. At times all of my clothes were clean and looked good but then it was unable to remove the small marks which were on white school tops. I would have to say that this would be a good powder if you don?t have very dirty clothes or if you don?t have children. It is also a great price. ...
Advantages: smells nice Disadvantages: does not remove basic stains
This is not my usual washing choice but as I had run out of my usual and did not fancy a trip to Tesco just for washingpowder then I went to my local shop and this was the only decent product on the shelf. I was a little dubious about it as the bottle is small and it is a liquid where as I normally use powder but I decided to give it a go.
~~THE BOTTLE~~
The bottle is plastic and it is white with a lovely pattern of orange streamers all around the side with pictures of tangerines at the bottom. The title of the product is in the middle in blue and orange lettering. The back of the bottle has all the relevant info about the washingpowder including, required amounts, directions for use, ingredients and contact info if you have any problems with the liquid. The top of the bottle is bright orange and this is the measuring cap which ...
Advantages: cleans brilliantly, smells nice, softens clothes nicely Disadvantages: can be a bit more expensive than other washing detergents
I've been using tablets for quite a while now (complete laziness on my part instead carefully pouring powder into my washing machine). I normally use Tesco's own brand colour-fast tablets which do the job and clean pretty well and smell nice.
I happened to buy the new Bold 2in1 Activ Fresh the other night as I wasn't in Tescos and needed washingpowder. It was on special and since I needed to buy conditioner as well it made sense to get the 2in1 tablets. I've used them a few times now and they're brilliant. Not only do they clean thoroughly (I normally use 2 tablets per load) but they do smell really nice and certainly shift grime. I'd been working in the back garden and my fleece got the brunt of the dirt and grime, and it's come up the most softest and cleanest it's been since the day I bought it two years ago.
