Advantages 10% off shopping bill.
Disadvantages Ignore Work related Health issues, Change of hours to suit them. No flexability!
This is my experience of Tesco:
No Rota Basis for staff who get the worst shifts & other staff refuse to swap, especially in some departments.
It is expected that you shall change your hours to suit Tesco regardless of commitments or how you will get home. Flexability is fine by me....if only they where as flexable as they make out! Reliable, loyal staff get stuck with it,
Work related health issues are ignored Eg: The chairs at checkouts are extremly uncomfortable & seen better days. This results in many staff with Back / Hip related health issues.
For people standing long periods of time on Concrete floors, no mats / seating are provided.
However Tesco makes promises, ignore employees requests which results in further health issues.
If you are ill at short notice you are still expected to attend. Possability of Disaplinary/ Warning & no Pay for the first 3 days. More than 3 days then it's flat rate pay with additional premiums removed.
Overtime rarely exists for some staff depending on what days they are contracted. Overtime rate is not the same for all employess. Some get Double Time, others Time & Half & staff joining in the last few years get Time & a Quarter!
Tesco does not contribute to a Health Scheme, you pay yourself. How do Staff afford it on Part Time Wages? There are better health policies than what tesco currently offer anyway.
Tesco is short staffed at certain times & days which over stretches & stresses staff. This in turn leads to longer ques & disgruntled Customers. When staff leave they are not replaced in some departments. Tesco have a budget they must stick to, that rarely stretches to replacements.
It appears Male Staff at Tesco have better paid roles Eg: Managers, Given better hours & more hours.
Majority of staff working at Tesco are Women & are employed Part Time. Once you have accepted a Part Time Role very few people manage to gain Full Time Employment with them.
The Canteen Food is the worst, unrecognisable & foul tasting. Maybe comparable to hospital food, possibly worse.
£7 An hour P/T pays some of the bills, it's a dismall existance not a living. This I believe is after you have been with the company 6 months perhaps.
During Christmas & Easter, you are not allowed holidays at all, although you can request one (Once every 5 years). Two official days off: Christmas Day & Easter only.
Tesco should put a little thought into how they treat their Staff for a change not just their Customers. The comments form we complete once a year doesn't even scratch the surface.
It's a free country 'or so they say' decide if you want to join now!
Quite frankly I am past caring who reads this or if I get sacked as a result. I am speaking for a huge amount of fellow employees, nationwide. A lot of which are putting up & shutting up in fear of losing their meager income & livelyhoods!
There sould be a complaints Web site/ Facebook page dedicated to Tesco Employees for all the above matters. The more employees that complain worldwide....maybe Tesco will ammend their ways.
