To start with, don't spend money buying their disc at the checkout and don't be put off by that! Ask for one online or ring them. They respond at once, the information arrives pronto and saves you 50p! You can always ask your local store to ring up for you and get one sent!!
I nearly didn't research them, as I object to paying to simply try something out, but I was really pleased that I got the disc and I was very pleasantly surprised at the difference between their service and f.e. AOL or even Freeserve. They do not have a free help number, but they do answer very quickly and they are helpful and don't waste your phone bill - mind you, I doubt you will need to use the Helpline for Tech support, as the service is good. If you do get a problem, they respond quickly and politely.
Tesco.net is a good ISP for anyone who is not totally secure using the net, as they really do feed you through just about anything you can think of!
All I can say is TRY IT - it costs you nothing at the moment for the first month, and you will probably be pleasantly surprised at the efficiency.
The software is very easy to install from disc or online. It has excellent, clear and uncluttered screens that are geared to suit new users or experienced upgraders. You can alter from scheme to scheme easily and also plenty of offers from Tesco! Being Tesco, you will find that your screen is doing its best to get you to shop online, but ignore it, and you have a very good ISP underneath it all.
The three main schemes are Anytime, currently one of the cheapest 24/7’s around at £12.99 per month with no fixed term contract. At the moment they are offering the first month free, with no strings attached.
Their Anytime does actually mean 24/7, unlike some ISP’s who use the term ‘Anytime’ but restrict you to a certain number of hours per month – BT Openworld is an example – read the small print!
The second tariff is the Daytime package, which is £5.99 per month for unlimited access between 0200 and 1600 hrs, all other times you are charged at 4p per minute. This package is a great deal for anyone who likes staying up nights! Note – it too is subject to the ten minute cut-off rule.
Both of the above offer the standard email addresses and webspace (specifically five addresses and 15MB space)etc etc.
The third option is the Pay as You Go, which is good value – the title says it all – you are charged for the time you are on line – 3ppm from 0800 to 1800 hrs Mondays to Fridays, 1ppm all other times.
The ten minute cut-off is a real nuisance. It is the only irritating thing about Tesco.net. If they alter it to a warning flag, it will stop a lot of frayed tempers! It sounds a long time, but it isn’t – think how long it takes to read through a page or to type an email on line – the time is gone before you know it, you have to then log in again from scratch!
Important note for anyone on the BT Light User Tariff, you may know that many ISP ‘free’ dial-up numbers mean you cannot use them, which then costs you money on your BT bill as you lose all discounts – so do check with Tesco’s Tech Support on 0906 3018000 or email support@tesco.net before you decide!

I consider this review to be extremely misleading and feel that arbrette along with anyone who takes up tesc.net,is in for an expensive disappointment. My experience with them has left me out of pocket and angry. At the out-set tesco charged me twice for joining them. They said they would send me a cheque. They didn,t.When I could not access my e-mail,they said the fault was with my computor. It wasn,t.The shop charged me £60.00 to find that out.I spent so much time on their rediculously expensive (LACK OF) help-line that my wife went mad when the phone bill arrived.I aquired an AoL free month disc.Fed it into my computor and ,guess what ? No problems.I have e-mailed tesco twice explaining the situation but they have not had the decency to reply. All that I have stated here is fact.I really do not want to hear of someone else falling foul of this rip-off.My late father used to say,"Cheap is not allways inexpensive".How right you are dad. attilla.

Sounds good, I'm considering a switch to these, as they're now doing TWO months free!! Al
Advantages: Reliable, stable, no maximum monthly limit, easy to install & excellent value. Disadvantages: Dial up only, but broadband due soon. No notice of cutoff. Free Status telephone line not always up to date.
