I joined Tesco's ISP because I moved from a Telewest area to a none Telewest or NTL area :( I wanted the cheapest ISP around because I wanted value for money. I currently use the Anytime tariff and have been a customer for 4 months.
Tesco ISP comes with three tariffs, £12.99 for Anytime..(with NO restrictions of how many hours you can be online ...unlike BT). Pay as you go, from 1p per minute (or cheaper if you add the number to your BT friends and family), and Daytime 2am - 4pm for £5.99 a month.(I'm 99% sure this includes weekends too).
Tesco are currently doing 2 months free with anytime, and you are under no obligation to stay with them. If you do stay, you are billed via a credit or debit card at the end of your month ..but please check which cards are accepted, Visa Electron, and American Express are currently not available. I had problems with my cards and ended up calling Tech support at a shocking 50p per minute, The person I spoke to was a waste of space and was quite rude
to me. I then complained to the tech support online, and got an apology. I recommend that anyone with a problem should email tech support first, they are quick at responding and it can save you a lot of money.
Anyway, once I got a valid debit card, I signed up, you can do this in two ways, online install or buy a Tesco CD, with the tariff you are interested in. You can also order the CD free online, mine arrived within 2 days. However I signed up online, in a few easy steps which you can exit at any time if you are unsure.
The set up was very easy indeed, and didn't take to long to do. It is suitable for a beginner, the only thing I didn't like was the tesco dial up box, and a red letter T in the corner of my browser window. These are easy to change if you know a little about computers. Also my partner then set up the connection on our networked PC's. He encountered no problems with this process.
If you have two phone lines at home, you also have the option of setting up both lines with Tesco internet, and as far as I'm aware, this is at no extra cost.
Once this process is over, you can connect to the internet, as quick and as easy as dial up is. You will notice your homepage has then changed to tesco.net. Easy to change back if you want to change it. (tools + internet options). You are free to surf the internet.
I then set up my email account in outlook express, this was a quick and easy process but you have to search Help on the tesco.net site on how to do it, not go to the email help, as currently it tells you nothing in there. Once set up, I've had no problems with my mail account at all.
Then I set up my newsgroups in outlook express, this was very easy and I was surprised to find there are loads more newsgroups available on tesco than there are on BT's newsgroup list. I do find that some nights between 6pm and 11pm, I cant download new newsgroup messages because the server is choc-a block. This can be annoying. However I did find this to be a major problem when I first signed up, but in the last 8 weeks its only happened 5 or 6 times. (Not that many for an addict).
Tesco automatically disconnect you if you remain inactive for 10 minutes, you can change your PC settings to fix this, or various websites offer free downloads to solve this problem.
In regards to the termination of service problems. I know people who have used and left Tesco with no problems at all. I have only encountered simular problems when leaving BT. I dont intend to leave Tesco for sometime yet, so I cant comment on any future problems that may or may not arise.
Tesco's ISP come with..
15mb Web space to design your own website. 5 email addresses viewable online or in Outlook. Online Tech support 50p per minute Phone support. Newsgroups And view whatever websites you like.
Currently Tesco are offering 2 months free trial on anytime..bargain!
All round, Tesco are a great ISP, easy to use and full of everything you'd want from a service provider. It is worth trying.
NOTE: I rated Technical support quality Excellent for online support, phone support I would rate very poor.

I found your review sincere and helpful - but there wasn't another one to read to see how consistant you were. I'm sure you would be welcome to come back - We have guestbooks now (including PRIVATE books) and the pale green is MUCH more user friendly than the old Orange I barely remember (as I couldn't login at college) - I started out merely doing surveys - I've been writing reviews and communicating for seven months and it's GREAT fun! ≈≈≈≈{; -)-{{::::: |||||<
Advantages: User friendly and very reliable. Three Tariffs to choose from Anytime, Daytime and PayAsYouGo. Disadvantages: You get cut off automatically after ten minutes of 'inactivity' online, with no warning!
