This time? The item under scrutiny is Tesco’s Hock. As usual I have bought the large 3 litre box full of the stuff for about £7.50 but it is also available in standard(75cl) and large bottle sizes and is reasonably priced ... ...certainly spared every expense on the box design anyway! It looks a little cheap, admittedly, in simple brown and beige colours with a small castle on it but the contents are much nicer.

This time? The item under scrutiny is Tesco’s Hock. As usual I have bought the large 3 litre box full of the stuff for about £7.50 but it is also available in standard(75cl) and large bottle sizes and is reasonably priced too – about £3.00 for the standard bottle. They’ve certainly spared every expense on the box design anyway! It looks a little cheap, admittedly, in simple brown and beige colours with a small castle on it but the contents are much nicer.
Again this white wine is firmly on the sweet side of the tracks, a little sweeter than I normally like being a medium white drinker normally but it is very pleasant and drinkable. If anything I find it goes down rather quickly like a sweet soft drink would (hic)!
It is described on the box as “medium sweet full-flavoured white wine with a rich fruity flavour”. I would argue that it is a little more than medium sweet although it is fruity and the aroma is very sweet which indicates its flavour well.
Produced in Germany, Hock is an old, widely available classic very similar to Liebfraumilch in both taste and sweetness. It is produced in the Rhein region of Germany and takes its name from its originating town of Hocheim. On the dry to sweet scale (1-9) it ranks a 5, again as Liebfraumilch generally does, so if you prefer a drier wine you will probably find this far too sweet. It is marginally too sweet for my taste but makes a nice tipple on its own or with a more savoury, spicy dish to counteract the flavours. The box label recommends it for parties and barbecues too, best serve chilled of course, as with most white wines.
The alcohol content is 9.0% volume so it is not a particularly strong wine and therefore a whole bottle, if your constitution is the same as mine, leaves you mildly happy but nothing more! So if you’re looking for something to get the party going this may prove a little too sweet and weak!
I decided to check out the wine offers at my local TESCO, following on from my purchase of red I decided to go for the white. Tesco Hock at £2.06 for 75cl was on offer; this coupled with my 50 points club card wine coupon made for a potentially good deal. ***THE PRODUCT***
The wine came in a glass bottle 9% alc by volume. It has a screw top slim glass bottle. The front label is white/green with details of the product plainly stamped, on the left ... ...label on the back; this is unusual for Tesco.
The Hock produce of Germany (Deutscher Tafelwein Rhein). Selected by Tesco
Style: Light & dry refreshing medium sweet white, Store: in a cool dark place. Once open drink within 2 days. Serve chilled; enjoy on its own.
Allergy advice contains sulphites.
***THE TASTE EXPERIENCE***
I served straight from the fridge. A 125-ml glass before my evening meal. Surprisingly enough it was not to sweet but had ...

Advantages: cheap, light and low alcohol content Disadvantages: very sweet and low alcohol content
Normally I wouldn't even think about buying a bottle of wine that comes with a screw cap, but for research purposes I'll let it slip this time!!
""HOCK""
Hock is a wine that uses a variety of grapes from the Rhine in Germany and it represents the wine that is grown in that region.
""TESCO HOCK""
The particular wine in question is Tesco Hock and I purchased the 75cl bottle for £1.89. The wine is also available in 150cl bottles and crates of 12 ... ...wine it comes in a bottle. Nothing flashy, a normal brown bottle with a screw cap and brown label with a big HOCK across the middle. You certaintly couldn't miss it if you were looking for it. The label suggests the alcohol content is 9.5% contrary to their website!
""TASTE""
As I take my first sip it slips down easily, a bit like drinking shandy or alcopops. The difference is it's not fizzy and it does taste like wine. After the second sip my ...

Advantages: cheaply priced Disadvantages: goes down to well
This is one of my favourite must haves tesco hock is very cheap to buy at only £1.98 for a 75cl bottle or £3.98 for a 1.5l bottle, i always buy the 1.5l bottle as the 75cl bottle doesn't last as long.
If like me you don't like a wine that is too dry you will love this it is refreshing and fruity and leaves you wanting more.
The wine itself is classified at tesco as a medium white wine but i would say this was more medium sweet it has a lovely fruity ... ...Imagine yourself on a long hot summer day sat in the garden relaxing or haveing a bbq with friends this wine is so versitile and cheap you can't afford not to try it, it is a very classy table wine.
The bottle itself is just your bog standard brown colour not very appealing but yet it doesn't do the wine justice, hock is one of your more common wines like liebfraumilch it has only got 9% alchohol in it yet it can leave you feeling a little light ...

Advantages: Cheap, easy to open! Disadvantages: Too easily drunk
Now I'm not going to bore the readers with the label from the back of the bottle which tells you which grapes are in this wine, because frankly that isn't an issue for me.
The wine is German. It is very sweet and a white wine. Now for those who like dry wines this would probably be deemed sickly sweet, and taste repulsive.
For those of us that aren't as up to speed about the difference between a chablis or a chardonnay like myself then read on.
... ...me when selecting a carryout for an evening. For a 750ml bottle of this currently costs £1.88. Yes, one pound and eighty eighty pence. It was not a typing error!
Now automatically some will not go near this as i know people deem how good a wine is simply by the price. I select it according to taste. Granted I have tried many a nicer wine but for me this hits the spot. It is very sweet and fruity but if this is what you like I would give it a try.

This is a sweet too medium white wine which is around 9.0% vol. with a very sweet fruity flavour.
I have been drinking this wine since my first days of drinking when I wasn't so well behaved & I still have the odd glass today as I still enjoy this as a casual drink.
WHAT I THINK ABOUT THIS PRODUCT......
I very much enjoy this wine as it has a very sweet, fruity flavour to it and you can enjoy it with almost any meal from ... ...own as a casual drink, and what's so great about this is that it is inexpensive and what I mean by this is that you can pick up a small bottle for as little as £1.77 for 75cl and a large bottle for £4.85 WOULD I RECOMEND THIS PRODUCT?
YES - definitely as it is great value for money and tastes great plus it is of good quality

Advantages: Light and smooth Disadvantages: Pretty non-descript taste really. Not at all like Bailey's.
I don?t really drink alcohol as a rule. I did used to, rumour has it that I had an awesome time at my 21st birthday party (sigh, those were the days!) and I did partake in a tipple whilst in Paris last Summer?.when in France??
But as a rule I don?t really drink. The plus side of that is that I never get a hangover, the downside is that on rare nights out, I am always ?Des?, *grin*!!
Before the madness and mayhem that was last Thursday and Friday, whilst in Tesco?s with the other maddies, I braved the drinks aisle with the intention of buying one or two ?alcopops? for the boys and a bottle of Hock for me and Will to go with Christmas dinner (heavily diluted with lemonade is how we take it???..shocking eh!!)
I was delayed from leaving aforementioned aisle by more seasoned ?drinkers? with trolleys containing precariously balanced ...
