Advantages: Good range of tasks, keeps kids involved and interested, genuine learning tool Disadvantages: have to wait for sounds and instructions to finish before you can interact.
My First CDROM from DorlingKindersley is aimed at ages 1½ to 3. From the moment it started it held my 2 year old's attention. It opens with some great music and Zac the jack in the box waving at you. My son loved this and waved back happily. You?re then given the option of six activities.
Pop and Peek is a guess and learn game. Each object is covered by a balloon and you have to click on the balloon to pop it. The easier levels have just one balloon but the later levels have lots of balloons. After you have uncovered each item it comes to life. My son's attention was held for over an hour with this. It teaches new words and associates each word with an object and seemed to work very well.
Partners and Pairs involves matching related items such as buckets and spades so is really more suited to the older end of the target audience ...
Advantages: easily obtainable, wide range of subjects Disadvantages: not cheap compared to some book brands
DorlingKindersley have a fantastic range of Books, CD's etc. They use real pictures that are clear and fun to learn with.

DK products cover such a diverse range of subjects and is hard to not find a book on the subject that you are looking for. You find DK books everywhere, and often have special offers worth looking out for.
Their encyclopaedia ranges and Eyewitness Guides are particularly good.

Advantages: Lift-the-Flaps, great photos and educational! Disadvantages: None
I'm a big fan of DorlingKindersley's books for children and this is just one of them that I have.
- The Book -
This is a non-fiction book and as the name suggests it's focus is on opposites. Each double page focuses on opposites and the following are covered:
* long and short
- This double page shows photos of long toy trains, ribbons, bread rolls, socks, pencils and hair.
* big and small
- Great photos of big and small elephants, cakes, hats, teddy bears and trucks.
* hard and soft
- One page is for hard things like crabs, shells, blocks, chairs and robots while the opposite page shows photos of soft things like a chick, a sponge, a cushions, a toy frog and a kitten.
* hot and cold
- Again one page is for hot things. A little disappointing as only the sun is shown. This is a beautiful photo but I think DK could ...
