That's Life!

***Intro - TRASH*** Now's here's a review I didn't think I'd find myself writing when I joined Ciao! Put quite simply, 'that's life!' magazine is TRASH. It is NOT the sort of magazine I would buy (or at least admit to buying!) out of choice - and certainly not a magazine I would want to ... Read review

That's Life - and it's my life!

Advantages: Cheap, not many adverts, I'm in it.
Disadvantages: Trashy stories, poor quality paper, I'm in it!

...(which was the real problem), that's why I won't have them full-time."

◊ 41 - Fight for your rights - a story about a woman and her front door. Yes, really.

◊ 44 - Aren't men daft - readers submit their pictures and stories about men, to make them look stupid. For instance a man in a shop mistaking a kitchen roll for a toilet roll - hilarious!

◊ 44 - Rude jokes of the week - oh dear, ...
...the general postal address is: that's life! 3rd Floor, Acadamic House, 24-28 Oval Road, London NW1 7DT

I would advise people not to enter into something like this lightly. Please consider the effect it might have on your life and that of those who you care about. Once it is done, there isn't anything you can do about it - don't say I haven't warned you!

That's Life, Puzzles and prizes worth thousands.

Advantages: cheap, addictive, great puzzles and prizes
Disadvantages: some strange stories

...I pick up four magazines, that's life, full house, chat and take a break. These cost me 2.72 only 68p each. Wow what saving from the previous 20.00 I was spending. These magazines didn't appeal to me, but I was willing to try them to see if it improved the customers reading. When I got home I thought I would read one to see what all the fuss was about. THAT'S LIFE MAGAZINE It was issue number 13, 27 march 2008. as I looked the cover I was amazed ...
...you can then login to that's life weekly to submit entries anytime you want, all for free of course. Phone in puzzle answers on 09055810810, this can also be very quick but can be very expensive as calls cost 25p per minute for BT land lines, and mobile costs vary. Post in your puzzle answers, this is very simple but it will cost you an envelope and a stamp. Simply fill your answer onto the coupon found in the back of the magazine and sends it to, ...

That's Life, Jim, But Not As We Know It...

Advantages: Money-making opportunities, some interesting bits
Disadvantages: Overcrowded, poor quality paper

...One of these magazines was That's Life! which comes out weekly and is priced at 65p. This is one of several almost identical looking magazines aimed at women from around 20 to 60. Whilst being one of the cheapest, I'm afraid the look of it suffers from the obvious cost-cutting measures they have employed, as the paper itself is low quality and feels almost greasy to the touch. The magazine is 48 pages long and seems very crowded, with photos and ...
...what to focus on next. The cover itself is bright and cheerful but again full and this feeling of trying to cram in too much continues from start to finish. With a weekly magazine, I am sure it would be possible to de-clutter the pages somewhat. It looks like the editor is frightened of any unused space! The magazine doesn't take long to read, maybe half an hour, so it is ideal for a doctor's waiting room or a quick tea break at work. If you want ...

That's life - Not mine it isn't

Advantages: Funny amusing stories-even if they're not supposed to be
Disadvantages: Not exactly high in pulitzer prize content.

My wife occasionally buys this magazine and I’ve picked it up a few times and had a read, as it has some word search quizzes and things –which I enjoy doing. (Honest- that’s the main reason I read it). Aimed primarily at women the magazine contains articles that are not too in-depth, covering topics like Health, Beauty, Fashion Cookery and some other items that vary from issue to issue. The magazine is a strange mix, because parts ...
...“currant bun” variety, while it also tries to cover some serious issues. The magazine also contains regular features like horoscopes and items like “tightwad tips” Here readers write in with tips to save money ,or how to make use of something , or just basic household tips. There is a page of Rude Jokes of the week again supplied by readers, who are paid £15.00if their joke is printed. The quizzes, which I’ve already ...

FETISH FOR FLESH

Advantages: Packed with articles
Disadvantages: none

What made me pick up a copy of that.s life, was it the headline “Fetish for Flesh” about hot passion with my 25 stone stripper I think not. No for me it was the lure of the competitions and the chance to win a fantastic prize. So what does this weekly magazine have to offer. The Puzzles There are always about ten competitions to enter word searches, crosswords and spot the difference being the most popular format. All answers can be ...
...a second class stamp a fabulous prize could be yours, alternatively you can phone in your entry at a cost of 50p per minute call lasting 90 seconds. A list of previous winners is always available at the back of the magazine. Reasons to be Cheerful This is two features dedicated to the soaps, one called soap splash tells you whats happening in your favourite soap that week and the other is soap gossip the latest juicy titbit about the tv celebrities. ...

Good for Competitions

Advantages: The competitions, good prizes
Disadvantages: Poor horoscopes

That's life is a magazine for women aged 25 and onwards, preferably who have had children. In fact before I had my baby the only time I would have read this magazine was if I was very bored in a doctor's waiting room. It's contents are mainly true life stories and competitions. The stories are sent in by everyday people who have had something unusual or interesting happen to them. The articles in last week's issue were about a woman who had an affair ...
...illness, taking on someone else's children at the age of 19, a man who killed his dad for sexually abuseing him and his sister as kids (I didn't read that one as child abuse turns my stomach) and others. There are quite a few competitions. All offer a prize ranging from 20 prizes of £50 for the spot the difference to £3000 for a crossword. There are also prizes of holiday vouchers, Marks and Spencers vouchers (if anyone still shops there), Argos ...

Esther your terrible, and That's Life

Advantages: er . . .umm . . .yeah
Disadvantages: Esther girl, what have you got yourself into?

Esther Rantsen, all round national treasure and the most fantastic campaigner for good causes. As a person, I cannot fault this women, she has done so much charitable work over the years it is incredible. As the presenter of That's Life, she played a key role in keeping a tight, but funny, reign on the lunatics, talking animals, mad old ladies, in her stead. As a chat show host? Esther, dear Esther, she is terrible! Esther did not think highly of itself to begin with (labelling yourself the next Vanessa Feltz is not particularly good PR in my opinion), and tv audiences responded appropraitely, by not watching. When Home and Away was taken off our screens last year, and many bored housewives, lack lustre students, and school kids had to find something else to watch. BBC2's supply of non confrontational chat seemed like a good choice ...

How did I cope pre Sky +??

Advantages: pausing tv, easy to record programmes, series linking
Disadvantages: only in a white box, monthly subscription fee

Having had my sky + box for almost a year now, I do wonder how I coped before!! It's definitely something that has simplified tasks and made my life easier! The initial purchase wasn't a smooth process for us. We had no phone line but understood we could still have sky +. This is correct but we were unable to apply via the website because of this. This meant that we missed out on the promotional welcome gift for new customers (£50 in M&S vouchers and £15 off the first bill when we applied). However, credit where it's due, we raised this with Sky and later received them. Installation was quick and easy and then, away we were. A range of channels and the facility to pause live tv. Brilliant!! Never again will I curse those phone calls in the middle of my favourite programmes. And being able to rewind a programme if you ...
