One advantage of the Avent system is that all the bottles, pumps, teats etc all fit each other. We had some Avent bottles anyway, and they could be used seamlessly.
In my case, the "brain" as Avent calls the base unit, malfunctioned after a fortnight. I rang Avent, and they replaced the whole unit by express delivery. It arrived the next day, and the customer support people were extremely helpful and efficent.

My son is now 10.5 months old, and for the last 7 months I've been expressing every day (all working day, and mornings on days off and weekends) using this pump.
It is a new product; when I bought it in the autumn I think it had only just come on the market. It consists of a domed base unit, which is flat on the bottom, a mains lead, the two pumps (complete with bottles), the plastic tube which connects the pump to the base unit, several spare bottles, teats, lids, and storage tops, cold packs (to keep milk fresh if you aren't near a fridge), insulating bags, and a bag to keep everything in.
It works extremely well. Before I bought this, I had an Ameda Lactaline. I far prefer the Avent electric pump. It's efficent, and not too noisy to use. You can use it singly or doubly with very little effort to change between them. The pumps are fitted with plastic cushions that make it far more comfortable to use than the Ameda.
To use it, you can entirely chose how intense and how fast you want the pumping action to be. The handle on the main bottle has a lever, and you move this up and down at the desired frequency and intensity. After you get it as you want it, you press the button next to the handle and the pump remembers how you were doing it, and carries on. If you later want to change the frequency, you just press the button again and use the handle to set your own pace again.

The bottles, pumps, and base unit are all extremely well-made. Apart from the electronic malfunction, the whole set is in extremely good shape after having been lugged around by me for months.
It has more separate parts than the Lactaline (the main pump body, the valve, the plastic sealer at the top, the plastic cushion, and the bottle) and that makes it a challenge to assemble the first couple of times. I got used to doing it fast, and more pieces do make it easier to clean. I steralised it in my Avent steam steraliser with no trouble.
It is expensive, far more expensive than other electric pumps. The set costs £250. The way I looked at it was that formula would have cost more and been an inferior product! Despite the price, I still think it's good value compared with the Lactaline.
