The Open University - The Best Way To Study !

Advantages: Fit study in with other commitments.
Disadvantages: It can be difficult to motivate yourself to study alone.

of courses and had an equivelent to the course I was hoping to do, and I would be able to do it all from home so I could spend time with my new baby whilst studying. I signed up and was really pleased to find that whilst OU courses are quite expensive many students qualify for a grant to cover the cost of ther course and a grant to cover the cost of the set books, stationary and travel to the optional study groups. Those with a household income under around £15,000 will have their full fees covered , plus around £1,000 of income is disregarded for your partner and each child. Mature Student's Study Guide: No More, No Less.

Advantages: Lots of information, extremely clear and helpful
Disadvantages: Over-explains and doesn't motivate or inspire

It is designed for both attending a college or university and distance learning, although the content applies more to degree courses. The first chapters are only mildly helpful. They are: ?Learning How To Learn?, ?Preparing for Study?, ?Organizing Your Study?, ?Enhancing Your Reading Skills?, ?Enhancing Your Writing Skills? and ?Enhancing Your Mathematical and Scientific Skills?. I suspect that they would be more useful to someone returning to education after a longer time or to ...

Studying with the Open University

Advantages: Open to all. No age limits. No formal qualifications required. Flexible. Fun. Challenging.
Disadvantages: Requires dedication, commitment, persistence and discipline

****************************************************** RESULT!!!!!! Passed the last exam and will become the proud owner of a Certificate proclaiming my BSc (Hons) Natural Sciences with Biology and Environmental Science in June 2003!! The only problem that I have now is... What do I do with all the spare time that has suddenly come my way!!! ****************************************************** INTRODUCTION I have been studying with the Open University (OU) since 1995 and should complete my BSc in Natural Sciences (Hons) this year (assuming a successful exam result). I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience of the OU and thought that a synopsis of my experiences might be useful to anyone considering this route to Higher Education. WHY THE OU? As a teenager, I was predicted straight A’s in my A Levels ...
