Undercover Stephen King

Advantages: Interesting read
Disadvantages: Good or bad - it's looong!

The Bachman books are perhaps some of the lesser know Stephen King books. Clearly this has to do with the fact that they were published under the pseudonym of Richard Bachman but possibly also with their subject matter. They are somewhat different from many of his other books and do not concentrate as much on horror and the supernatural as King's book usually do. Instead they deal with the horror that is humanity and the cruelty that lives within ...
...Kind published 5 books under the Bachman pseudonym. These were Rage, The Long Walk, Roadwork, The Running Man and Thinner. The first four of these are collected in what has simply been called the Bachman Books. Quite why Thinner has not been included I do not know, although my guess, after having read it, is that the theme is different to the other stories. This is more of a 'proper' horror story and as such does not blend so well with the others. ... more

A terrific read, you won't want to put it down

Advantages: Four stories in one; Amazing plot lines
Disadvantages: One of the stories is hard work, but the rest.....genius!!

...were not your run of the mill horror, he was found out by a journalist who spotted his name on some copywrite documents and then stopped using it. As a King fan I was looking forward to reading this book, which is a compilation of four stories written under his pseudonym, and I was not dissapointed. As I said, these are not your usual horrors, dealing instead with a more psychological thriller aspect. The first story is Rage, the story of a student ...
...it has you wondering all the way through whats going to happen next, kept me gripped. Then there is The Long Walk, a fascinating story about a contest where 100 young men quite literally walk until only one is left alive, sound boring? It isn't!! The interaction between the contestants as they go along is stunning and had me close to tears at points. Roadworks is the story of a man, Bart Dawes, slowly going insane as he deals with his family home ...

Excellent

Advantages: Short stories, engaging, disturbing
Disadvantages: None whatsoever

...don't know, Richard Bachmans is the alias that Steven King uses when he wants to write something a bit different. The Bachman books are a compilation of short stories and they are brilliant. My personal favourite is The Long Walk, set in future America (not too far though), when teenage boys compete to be entered into the Long Walk. 100 finalists then walk across Central America, until they drop basically. If you break the rules you are shot and ...

The Long Walk-Richard Bachman aka Stephen King

Advantages: Feels like you know the characters
Disadvantages: Ermmmm

The Long Walk is a book written by Stephen King under the pen name Richard Bachman. It is part of the Bachman Books which are all set in the future. It is the story about several different men and their journey through the country as they take part in a gruelling 450 mile long marathon which is the ultimate sports challenge. With merciless heat and limited rations, their prize if they win is a huge amount of money. Most of the men die and the book tells the reader aboutt he different stories of the individuals who are taking part. The Long Walk was written by King in 1966 but even today , it is read by many people. It is an excellent read and i would recommend it to anyone who liked horror books. You would like this book if you liked Rage or The Running Man. ...

Compelling Disturbing Fantastic

Advantages: One of King's best stories
Disadvantages: I've already read it!

the emotional high. This truly is one on Stephen King's masterpieces. It is no wonder that, although the book was originally published under the name of Richard Bachman, that people started questioning the author's true identity after this book. King's talent cannot be hidden. This book can also be purchased as a part of 'The Bachman Books' which contains three other Richard Bachman stories, although this is the crowning glory of the four. I have reread the book many times. ...

Review of The Long Walk - Stephen King

Emotion and Thought Twisting S.King Novel

Advantages: the hook it has on the reader
Disadvantages: the fact that you think about this sotry all the time

When Stephen King did the stunt of writing under a different name for a while, Richard Bachman, this was put under some of the titles. For Valentine's Day i bought my boyfriend the compilation of the Bachman Books along with RAGE , The Running Man and another story, but I will talk about the others seperately. I decided to read with him this story and I absolutely loved it. It was so compelling and everytime we had to put it down, I found myself thinking about the story and imagining the setting in my head. It swam through my thoughts until I had to finish the book. *Phew* However i will will tell you about the story but not the ending because... like all Stephen King Books, ifyou destroy the ending the twists will be obiliterated and there wouldn't be much more excitement in reading them! Well it starts off ...
